In this study, nine congeners of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and sixteen congeners of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in water samples to elucidate their spatial distribution, congener profiles, sources and ecological risks in the Guanlan River during both the dry season (DS) and the wet season (WS). The concentration of Sigma 9PBDE ranged from 58.40 to 186.35 ng/L with an average of 115.72 ng/L in the DS, and from 8.20 to 37.80 ng/L with an average of 22.15 ng/L in the WS. Meanwhile, the concentration of Sigma(16)PAHs was ranged from 121.80 to 8371.70 ng/L with an average of 3271.18 ng/L in the DS and from 1.85 to 7124.25 ng/L with an average of 908.11 ng/L in the WS. The concentrations of PBDEs and PAHs in the DS were significantly higher than those in the WS, probably due to the dilution of the river during the rainy season. Moreover, the spatial distribution of pollutants revealed decreasing trend in the concentration from upstream to downstream and almost identical pattern was observed during both seasons. The source apportionment suggested that penta-BDE and to some extent octa-BDE commercial products were major sources of PBDEs in the study area. However, the sources of PAHs were mainly comprised of fossil fuels and biomass burning, followed by the petroleum products and their mixtures. The results of the ecological risk assessment indicated PBDEs contamination posed high ecological risks, while PAHs exhibited low or no ecological risks in the study area. Consistent with the environmental levels, the ecological risks of pollutants were relatively lower in the WS, compared to that in the DS. The results from this study would provide valuable baseline data and technical support for policy makers to protect the ecological environment of the Guanlan River. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Meso- and microporous ZSM-5 zeolites were synthesized through combination of the tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) and single quaternary ammonium surfactant (Cph-ph-10-6) as dual templates. The structure-directing ability of Cph-ph-10-6 and TPA(+) was investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculation. By tuning the molar ratios of Cph-ph-10-6/TPAOH from 5/0 to 5/8, the structure-directing effects between Cph-ph-10-6 and TPA(+) could be systematically modulated, resulting in the morphology of the mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolites changed from ultrathin nanosheets, through splint like nanosheets, to condensed packing plates. In addition, the hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolites exhibited a greater catalytic activity in alkylation of mesitylene with benzyl alcohol compared with conventional ZSM-5 zeolite. The fine control of meso- and microporous structures of ZSM-5 zeolites by a simple one-step dual template synthesis approach allows the design of the desired catalysts for a green and sustainable future.

The lack of Nationally Certified Reference Materials for the calibration of DSC equipment in the sub-ambient range has been addressed by the introduction of a Certified Reference Material of purified cyclohexane by the National Metrology Institute of Japan. A highly efficient Ni/N-C catalyst was synthesized by facile pyrolysis of a Ni-containing metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF), and its catalytic hydrogenolysis performance towards C-O bonds in lignin was evaluated in detail using diphenyl ether (DPE) as a model compound. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses show that the flower-like nanosheets of the Ni-MOF shrink, forming a loose and ordered spherical structure during pyrolysis. Under the optimal conditions, DPE was completely converted and the selectivity to monomers (benzene, cyclohexanol and cyclohexane) reached 99.1%. During the catalytic hydrogenolysis conversion (CHC) of DPE, the direct cleavage of the C-aromatic-O bond affording benzene and phenol is the major reaction pathway, and a low H2 pressure is crucial to increase the monomer selectivity. Furthermore, Ni/N-C-450 shows high hydrogenolysis activity for other lignin-derived aryl ethers, such as benzyl phenyl ether, dibenzyl ether, dinaphthalene ether, benzyl 2-naphthyl ether and 3-methoxyphenol.

Due to their remarkable properties, task-specific ionic liquids have turned out to be progressively popular over the last few years in the field of green organic synthesis. Herein, for the first time, we report that a new task-specific nitrite-based ionic liquid such as 3-(ethoxycarbonyl)-1-(5-methyl-5-(nitrosooxy)hexyl) pyridin-1-ium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imides (TS-N-IL) derived from biodegradable ethyl nicotinate indeed acted as an efficient and eco-friendly reagent for the synthesis of highly valuable nitroaromatic compounds and drugs including nitroxynil, tolcapone, niclofolan, flutamide, niclosamide and nitrazepam. The bridging of an ionic liquid with nitrite group not only increases the yield and rate of direct C-N bond formation reaction but also allows easy product separation and recyclability of a byproduct. Nonvolatile nature, easy synthesis, merely stoichiometric need and mildness are a portion of the extra focal points of TS-N-IL while contrasted with tert-butyl nitrite an outstanding and highly-flammable reagent utilized largely in organic synthesis. A highly active difunctional Ni-Mg2Si/gamma-Al2O3 was prepared by thermally decomposing nickel tetracarbonyl onto gamma-Al2O3 impregnated with Mg2Si. The non-catalytic hydroconversion (NCHC) and catalytic hydroconversion (CHC) of the extract (E) and extraction residue (ER) from Yinggemajianfeng lignite were investigated over Ni-Mg2Si/gamma-Al2O3 at 240 degrees C in n-hexane. Benzyloxybenzene and oxybis(methylene)dibenzene were used as lignite-related model compounds to speculate the possible mechanisms for the catalytic hydrocracking and hydrogenation over Ni-Mg2Si/gamma-Al2O3. As a result, more organic matter in ER was converted to soluble portion (SP) by the CHC than by the NCHC. The main SP from the CHC are chain alkanes and cyclanes, while that from the NCHC is rich in arenes and oxygen-containing organic compounds. The results indicate that Ni-Mg2Si/gamma-Al2O3 effectively catalyze the hydrocracking of > C-alk-O-linkages and the hydrogenation of aromatic rings in E and ER.

The cleavage of C-O linkages in aryl ethers in biomass-derived lignin compounds without hydrogenation of the aromatic rings is a major challenge for the production of sustainable mono-aromatics. Conventional strategies over the heterogeneous metal catalysts require the addition of homogeneous base additives causing environmental problems. Herein, we propose a heterogeneous Ru/C catalyst modified by Br atoms for the selective direct cleavage of C-O bonds in diphenyl ether without hydrogenation of aromatic rings reaching the yield of benzene and phenol as high as 90.3 % and increased selectivity to mono-aromatics (97.3 vs. 46.2 % for initial Ru) during depolymerization of lignin. Characterization of the catalyst indicates selective poisoning by Br of terrace sites over Ru nanoparticles, which are active in the hydrogenation of aromatic rings, while the defect sites on the edges and corners remain available and provide higher intrinsic activity in the C-O bond cleavage.

Extractive distillation is a common method to separate the mixture, which has the low relative volatility. Many solvents were screened to separate the mixture based on the experiment. Because the number of candidate solvents is high and the experiment is time-consuming. Quantitative structure property relationship was introduced to model and evaluate the relative volatility of isopropanol and water mixture. Magnetic biopolymer hybrid nanoparticles have gained a lot of attention in the field of biomedical applications. Here we present the synthesis of hyaluronic acid (HA)-coated magnetic clusters of superparamagnetic nanoparticles. Firstly, the superparamagnetic magnetite nanoparticles coated with oleic acid were synthesized and characterized in terms of size, composition and magnetic properties. Secondly, magnetic nanoclusters were prepared and wrapped with HA grafted with an ethylene glycol-based copolymer. The resulting nanostructures and nanobeads were characterized using electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, thermogravimetric analysis and magnetic measurements. The clustering of magnetite nanoparticles facilitates magnetic purification, separation, rapid attraction and controlled positioning by high field gradient micro-magnet arrays. In addition, clusters could be formed in the presence of a fluorescent drug model, which demonstrates the possibility of dual functionalization of our hybrid nanosystems: magnetic responsiveness and drug encapsulation.
