Human exposure to pentabromodiphenyl ether (PBDE) mixture (DE-71) and its PBDE-47 congener can occur both in utero and during lactation. Here, we tested the hypothesis that PBDE-induced neonatal hepatic transcriptomic alterations in Wistar Han rat pups can inform on potential toxicity and carcinogenicity after longer term PBDE exposures. Wistar Han rat dams were exposed to either DE-71 or PBDE-47 daily from gestation day (GD 6) through postnatal day 4 (PND 4). Total plasma thyroxine (T4) was decreased in PND 4 pups. In liver, transcripts for CYPs and conjugation enzymes, Nrf2, and ABC transporters were upregulated. In general, the hepatic transcriptomic alterations after exposure to DE-71 or PBDE-47 were similar and provided early indicators of oxidative stress and metabolic alterations, key characteristics of toxicity processes. The transcriptional benchmark dose lower confidence limits of the most sensitive biological processes were lower for PBDE-47 than for the PBDE mixture. Neonatal rat liver transcriptomic data provide early indicators on molecular pathway alterations that may lead to toxicity and/or carcinogenicity if the exposures continue for longer durations. These early toxicogenomic indicators may be used to help prioritize chemicals for a more complete toxicity and cancer risk evaluation.

Thiobenzoic acid (TBA) can serve as a single-electron reducing agent under photoirradiation from a blue light-emitting diode, in the presence of appropriate electron acceptors, and the resulting sulfur-centered radical species undergoes hydrogen atom abstraction. This dual-role catalysis by TBA enables regioselectivie C alpha-H arylation of benzylamines, benzyl alcohols, and ethers, as well as dihydroimidazoles, with cyano(hetero)arenes in good yield, without the need for a transition-metal photocatalyst and/or synthetically elaborated organic dyes.

The design of novel materials to use simultaneously in an ocular system for driven therapeutics and wound healing is still challenging. Here, we produced nanocomposites of tungsten disulfide carriers with spherical cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (NPs) as core inside a cubic iron oxide NPs shell (WS2/s-CoFe2O4@c-Fe3O4). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed that 10 nm s-CoFe2O4@c-Fe3O4 NPs were attached on the WS2 sheet surfaces. The cytotoxicity of the WS2 sheets and nanocomposites were evaluated on bovine cornea endothelial cells (BCECs) using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay for a duration of three days. The MTT assay results showed low toxicity of the WS2 sheets on BCECs by 67% cell viability at 100 mu g/mL in 24 h, while the nanocomposites show 50% cell viability in the same conditions. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of nanocomposites revealed the excellent T-2-weighted imaging with an r(2) contrast of 108 mM(-1) S-1. The in vitro photothermal therapy based on WS2 sheets and WS2/s-CoFe2O4 @c-Fe3O4 nanocomposites using 808 nm laser showed that the maximum thermal energy dispatched in medium at different applied power densities (1200 mw, 1800, 2200, 2600 mW) was for 0.1 mg/mL of the sample solution. The migration assay of BCECs showed that the wound healing was approximately 20% slower for the cell exposed by nanocomposites compared with the control (no exposed BCECs). We believe that WS2/s-CoFe2O4@c-Fe3O4 nanocomposites have a synergic effect as photothermal therapy agents for eye diseases and could be a target in an ocular system using MRI.

SDS of cas: 101-84-8. I found the field of Chemistry very interesting. Saw the article Synthesis of a Cellulosic Pd(salen)-Type Catalytic Complex as a Green and Recyclable Catalyst for Cross-Coupling Reactions published in 2020.0, Reprint Addresses Chen, CX; Peng, JS (corresponding author), Northeast Forestry Univ, Coll Chem Chem Engn & Resource Utilizat, Harbin 150040, Heilongjiang, Peoples R China.; Chen, CX (corresponding author), Northeast Forestry Univ, Mat Sci & Engn Coll, Harbin 150040, Heilongjiang, Peoples R China.. The CAS is 101-84-8. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of Diphenyl oxide.

A green recyclable cellulose-supported Pd(salen)-type catalyst was synthesized through sequential three steps: chlorination with thionyl chloride, modification by ethylenediamine, and the formation of Schiff base with salicylaldehyde to immobilize palladium chloride through multiple binding sites. This novel heterogeneous cellulosic Pd(salen)-type catalytic complex was fully characterized by FT-IR, SEM, TEM, XPS, ICP-AES and TG. The traditional cross-coupling chemistry, such as Suzuki, Heck, Sonogashira, Buchwald-Hartwig amination and etherification, was then investigated in the presence of the above cellulose-palladium nanoparticle. Studies have shown that the synthesized catalyst shows high activity and efficiency for all types of transformations, providing the corresponding carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom coupling products in a general and mild manner. Furthermore, the catalyst demonstrates high to excellent yields and is easily recycled by simple filtration for up to twelve cycles without any significant loss of catalytic activity. [GRAPHICS] .

Although the extensive use of synthetic insecticides to control mosquito vectors have gained significant success, meanwhile resulted in various problems, such as increase in insecticide-resistant mosquitoes, environmental pollution, and health threat to human beings. Hence, there is an urgent need for alternative insecticides and effective synergists to combine with existing insecticides, which are safe to public health and environment. In this work, the larvicidal activity of 53 commercial essential oils (EOs) and their synergistic effect with deltamethrin against Aedes albopictus adults were screened, then the main constituents of active EOs were analyzed by GC-MS. The most potent EOs against the larvae are from Foeniculum vulgare (fennel), Thymus vulgaris (thyme), Citrus medica (lime), and Camellia sinensis (green tea) with LC50 values of 27.5, 31.6, 51.3, 53.5 ppm, respectively. The most efficient EOs enhancing the efficacy of deltamethrin are C. sinensis (green tea), the co-toxic factor is 316.67, which is more than the positive control PBO (co-toxic factor = 283.35). It suggests that there is significant potential of natural EOs in the application of mosquito control as larvicides or synergists for enhancing efficacy of current adulticides.

A new and sensitive method, termed magnetic solid phase extraction combined with dispersive liquid-liquid micro-extracton (MSPE-DLLME), has been developed for the simultaneous determination of biphenyl and biphenyl oxide in water samples. Different parameters influencing the extraction efficiency, including the amount of sorbent, sorption time, type of elution solvent and its volume, type of extraction solvent and its volume, and elution time were optimized. The calibration curves were linear in the range of 0.5-100 mu g/L for both of them. The limits of detection (LODs) were achieved, 0.03 mu g/L for biphenyl and 0.07 mu g/L for biphenyl oxide, respectively. Ultimately, the applicability of the method was successfully confirmed by the extraction and determination of biphenyl and biphenyl oxide in sea, river, tap, and water well.

The hierarchical structure of zeolites plays a crucial role in determining their catalytic performance. Here, the effect of the hierarchical architecture and surface topology of pillared MWW zeolites on the catalytic properties of liquid alkylation between mesitylene and benzyl alcohol was investigated. Pillared MWW zeolite catalysts exhibited excellent activity (similar to 100% conversion) due to their elegant pore architecture, which could largely improve the accessibility of bulk molecules toward active sites on the external surface. In addition, molecular simulation showed that lamellar MWW zeolites with a 12-membered ring semicup surface topology could more effectively accommodate and stabilize the large intermediates formed in alkylation reactions compared with MFI zeolites, resulting in outstanding selectivity for 2-benzyl-1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (similar to 100%). The Thiele modulus (phi) and effectiveness factor (eta) verified that the resultant pillared MWW zeolites possessed a high degree of utilization without internal diffusion constraints under the present reaction conditions.

A porous organic polymer (POL-dppe) was synthesized and employed as a heterogeneous ligand for selective hydroacylation of alkynes. The polymer shows high linear selectivity and catalytic efficiency toward a broad range of alkynes and beta-S substituted aldehydes. Owing to the confinement effect of the microporous structure, POL-dppe was far superior to the monomeric dppe ligand in controlling the selectivity of electron-deficient alkynes. The use of a porous organic polymer as a regioselective and efficient ligand in hydroacylation is reported for the first time.

A novel interzeolite transformation strategy using internally confined organic structure directing agents (OSDAs), called the OSDA-confined strategy, is proposed for highly crystalline nanosized high-silica ZSM-5 zeolite synthesis, by which high yield and fast synthesis of ZSM-5 is achieved using BEA zeolite as a raw material. The transformation process was investigated by XRD, SEM, ICP, FTIR and UV Raman spectroscopy, which revealed that the decomposition of a parent zeolite and the crystallization process of products were well modulated by the confined OSDA. The transformation process could be divided into three stages consisting of raw material deconstruction, small size product formation and product growth. The strong etching power of NaOH contributes to the fast decomposition of BEA zeolites. In addition, tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) as an OSDA was confined in the parent zeolite instead of being added into the mother liquid, achieving a high local concentration of TPAOH, which could reduce the decomposition rate of the parent BEA zeolite and promote the efficient organization of the building units generated by the decomposition of the BEA zeolite. Thereof, a high yield was achieved by the synergistic effect of NaOH and occluded TPAOH. During the interzeolite transformation process, the six-membered rings (6Rs), five-membered rings (5Rs) and four-membered rings (4Rs) in the BEA zeolite framework were disassembled and combined with the help of 5Rs to produce the ZSM-5 zeolite structure. Moreover, due to the nanoscale and large surface area, the obtained ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst showed extremely high catalytic activity in the self-etherification reaction of benzyl alcohol (BA) to dibenzyl ether (DE). This study provides insights into the interzeolite transformation process, which would be helpful for achieving size control and high-efficiency synthesis.
