Enomoto, Y; Iwata, T in [Enomoto, Yukiko; Iwata, Tadahisa] Univ Tokyo, Grad Sch Agr & Life Sci, Sci Polymer Mat,Dept Biomat Sci, Bunkyo Ku, 1-1-1 Yayoi, Tokyo 1138657, Japan published Synthesis and characterization of bio-based aromatic polyketones and polyetherketones derived from divanillic acid in 2021.0, Cited 23.0. Formula: C12H10O. The Name is Diphenyl oxide. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of 101-84-8.

Bio-based aromatic polyketones (PKs) and polyetherketones (PEKs) were synthesized by the electrophilic substitution reaction of alkoxylated divanillic acid (R-DVA) and 2,2′-dimethoxybiphenyl or diphenylether. Alkoxy side-chains were introduced at the hydroxyl groups of DVA prior to polymerization. Polymerizations were carried out in a phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5)/methanesulfonic acid (MsOH) system. DVA-based PKs and PEKs were soluble in common organic solvents including chloroform and dimethylsulfoxide, and their chemical structures were determined by H-1 and C-13 NMR. The weight-average molecular weights (M-w) of the PKs were 2.6-15.0 x 10(3) g/mol, and those of all PEKs were approximately 1.0 x 10(3). The 10% degradation temperatures of the PKs and PEKs were 340-400 degrees C. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed that the PKs and PEKs were amorphous. The PKs with methyl to butyl side-chains exhibited high glass transition temperatures (T-g) in the range 250-297 degrees C, while T-g of PK (octyl side-chain) was 157 degrees C and those of the PEKs were 73-127 degrees C.

I found the field of Environmental Sciences & Ecology very interesting. Saw the article Environmental contaminants in coastal populations: Comparisons with the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and resident dolphins published in 2019.0. Safety of Diphenyl oxide, Reprint Addresses Backer, LC (corresponding author), Ctr Dis Control & Prevent, Natl Ctr Environm Hlth, Atlanta, GA 30333 USA.. The CAS is 101-84-8. Background: People living in coastal communities are at risk for exposure to environmental hazards, including legacy chemicals. We can use databases such as NHANES to assess whether contaminants in coastal communities are present in higher levels than in the United States overall. We can use information from studies of local animal populations to assess which of these contaminants could have been transferred to people from their shared environment. Objective: Our objectives were to examine the POP profiles in human populations in areas where there are published POP profiles in resident dolphins and to compare our results with data from NHANES and the dolphin studies. Methods: We identified three areas where POPs have been analyzed in local resident dolphin populations (total N = 73). We identified human communities in the same areas, and asked 27 eligible adults to read and sign a consent form, complete a questionnaire about demographics and seafood consumption, provide nine 10-mL blood samples, and provide one sample of seafood (N = 33). Blood and seafood were analyzed for a suite of POPs similar to those analyzed in published dolphin population studies. We compared the results from human blood analyses with NHANES and with data from the published reports of dolphin studies. Results: Levels and proportions of specific POPs found in people and animals reflect POPs found in the local environment. Compared with the nationally representative data reported in NHANES, the levels of many POPs found in high levels in dolphins were also higher in the corresponding human communities. Conclusions: Contaminants measured in marine animals, such as dolphins, can be used to identify the types and relative levels of environmental contaminants expected to occur in people sharing the same environment. Likewise, contaminants measured in coastal human populations can provide insight into which contaminants may be found in nearby animal populations. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) is one of the most studied and established materials for transparent electrode applications. However, the syntheses for FTO nanocrystals are currently very limited, especially for stable and well-dispersed colloids. Here, we present the synthesis and detailed characterization of FTO nanocrystals using a colloidal heat-up reaction. High-quality SnO2 quantum dots are synthesized with a tuneable fluorine amount up to similar to 10% atomic, and their structural, morphological and optical properties are fully characterized. These colloids show composition-dependent optical properties, including the rise of a dopant-induced surface plasmon resonance in the near infrared.

Co-infection of malaria and tuberculosis, although not thoroughly investigated, has been noted. With the increasing prevalence of tuberculosis in the African region, wherein malaria is endemic, it is intuitive to suggest that the probability of co-infection with these diseases is likely to increase. To avoid the issue of drug-drug interactions when managing co-infections, it is imperative to investigate new molecules with dual activities against the causal agents of these diseases. To this effect, a small library of quinolone-thiosemicarbazones was synthesised and evaluated in vitro against Plasmodium falciparum and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causal agents of malaria and tuberculosis, respectively. The compounds were also evaluated against HeLa cells for overt cytotoxicity. Most compounds in this series exhibited activities against both organisms, with compound 10, emerging as the hit; with an MIC90 of 2 mu M against H37Rv strain of M. tuberculosis and an IC50 of 1 mu M against the 3D7 strain of P. falciparum. This study highlights quinolone-thiosemicarabazones as a class of compounds that can be exploited further in search of novel, safe agents with potent activities against both the causal agents of malaria and tuberculosis.

In this study, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) levels in soil were studied for a whole year in highly industrialized region of Turkey (Dilovasi) at 23 sampling sites. Sigma 8PBDE concentrations were between 0.15 and 286 mu g kg(-1) and the overall average concentration was 14.45 +/- 25.07 g kg(-1) (average +/- SD). BDE-209 was the most abundant compound. PBDEs concentrations decreased spatially as follows: industrial/urban > urban > suburban > rural. However, there was not any significant seasonal trend except for some industrial/urban sites. In the region, calm weather conditions prevailed during the sampling periods, enhancing the impact of the industrial emissions on nearby soil concentrations by atmospheric deposition without being diluted by winds. All congeners had significant but weak correlations with soil organic matter content indicating the impact of nearby sources rather than soil properties on soil PBDEs concentrations at the sampling sites. Positive matrix factorization method was also used for the apportionment of the PBDEs sources in Dilovasi soil. Industrial activities (i.e., iron-steel production, metallurgical processes, and recycling of plastics), traffic, and residential areas were found to be the primary sources of the measured PBDEs in the soil.

Levels of particle-phase legacy polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and novel brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, such as decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) and Dechlorane Plus (DP), were measured in ambient outdoor air, indoor workplace air and indoor dust, in different locations across Spain. PBDE concentrations were generally higher in outdoor ambient air samples than in indoor air, ranging between 1.18 and 28.6 pg m(-3), while DP was the main flame retardant (FR) in indoor air (2.90-42.6 pg m(-3)). A different behavior of legacy versus novel Fits was observed in all the environments and matrices considered, which seemed to indicate a progressive replacement of the former. Although the emission sources could not be fully identified, certain evidences suggested that high outdoor PBDE concentrations could be associated with old goods in landfills and recycling centers, while high indoor DP concentrations were linked to the presence of new electronic devices. A direct impact of land use on outdoor atmospheric DP concentrations was observed, with DP concentrations correlating with high density of buildings within a city. In addition, DP concentrations outdoors correlated with inorganic species with FR properties (e.g., Cr, Cu). Significant differences in the fraction of anti-DP to the total DP (F-anti ratio) were observed between indoor air (PM2.5) and dust (PM10), which could be related with: a) a dependence on particle size, suggesting a higher relative abundance of the anti-isomer in PM10 than in PM2.5, while similar concentrations were recorded for the syn-isomer; b) a higher deposition rate of the anti-isomer compared to the syn-isomer; and/or c) a more accentuated preferential degradation of the anti-isomer linked to artificial light or other agents coexisting in the air. The detectable presence of all the FR families analyzed in indoor air and dust points to the importance of monitoring these compounds in order to minimize human exposure. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. China produces and consumes large quantities of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) as well as several other unregulated electronic waste recycling activities, causing high BFR concentrations in the natural environment. Thus, Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs) may be contaminated by legacy BFRs (e.g. polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)) and emerging BFRs (eBERs, such as decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE)) during growth, processing, packaging, and transportation. Pheretima, which is a typical animal drug recorded in Chinese Pharmacopoeia, was used as an example to evaluate human exposure to BFRs through TCM intake. This study is the first to determine 25 PBDEs and 5 eBERs in Pheretima and estimate the daily BFR intake via Pheretima-containing TCMs. Twenty-seven Shanghai Pheretima and fifty-one Guang Pheretima samples were collected between March and June 2019 in southeast China. High BFR detection frequencies were found in Pheretima, of which BDE-209 and DBDPE were the most predominant analytes. The total PBDE contents ranged from 73 pg/g to 8,725 pg/g, while that of the eBERs varied between 115 pg/g and 2,824 pg/g. The profiles and abundances were found to be species- and origin-dependent. However, the traditional processing of Pheretima may reduce BFR residues. Based on the usual clinical doses of Pheretima and the available chronic oral reference doses of BDE-47, 99, 153, and 209, the mean (95th percentile) of the total hazard quotient was estimated to be 9.1 x 10(-5) (2.7 x 10(-4)). Therefore, there is little risk related to BFR exposure for patients taking formulated Pheretima-containing TCMs. However, it is necessary to establish routine monitoring programs for the co-existence of pollutants in TCMs to perform a systematic and comprehensive risk assessment. A quinoxaline-based porous organic polymer (Q-POP) as a mesoporous organic copolymer was developed as a new platform for the immobilization of CuNPs and copper nanocrystals. The prepared materials were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, N-2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, ICP, TGA, SEM, HR-TEM, EDX, and single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The obtained catalyst presented extraordinary catalytic activity towards Ullmann C-O coupling reactions with high surface area, hierarchical porosity, and excellent thermal and chemical stability. Due to its high porosity, and synergistic effect of copper nanocrystals incorporated in the polymer composite, the as-synthesized catalyst was successfully utilized for the Ullmann C-O coupling reaction of phenols and different aryl halides to prepare various diaryl ether derivatives. All types of aryl halides (except aryl fluorides) were screened in the Ullmann C-O coupling reaction with phenols to produce diaryl ethers in good to excellent yields (70-97 %), and it was found that aryl iodides have the best results. Besides, due to the strong interactions between CuNPs, N, and O-atoms of quinoxaline moiety existing in the polymeric framework, the copper leaching from the support was not observed. Furthermore, the catalyst was recycled and reused for five consecutive runs without significant activity loss.

Palladium nitrsosyl carboxylates Pd-3(NO)(2)(CX3CO2)(4)(ArH)(2) (I: X=Cl, Ar=Ph; II: X=F, Ar=Tol) are found to be effective catalysts for C-H/C-H oxidative homocoupling of arenes bearing electron-donor as well as electron-withdrawing groups (EWG). Trifluoroacetate complex II is found to be more promising due to higher stability under the reaction conditions. Complex II also shows high performance in intramolecular coupling in diarylsulfides, diarylethers and diarylamines giving corresponding dibenzothiophenes, dibenzofurans and carbazoles with yields ranged from moderate to high. The plausible mechanism is studied by DFT computational analysis basing on Pd-3 linear complexes as major active species. It was found that two deprotonation steps proceed in two different ways: for the first deprotonation SEAr is most probable pathway while for the second one concerted metalation-deprotonation (CMD) is preferable. That can explain high tolerance of the system to different substrates: SEAr is favorable in the presence of electron donor group and EWG facilitate CMD. NO group was found to be involved into the CMD pathway and that is the rate-determining step with the highest activation barrier.

I found the field of Chemistry very interesting. Saw the article How protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase inhibitors and transgenesis contribute to elucidate plant tetrapyrrole pathway published in 2019.0. Category: ethers-buliding-blocks, Reprint Addresses Riou, C (corresponding author), Univ Limoges, Lab Peirene EA7500, Fac Sci & Tech, 123 Ave Albert Thomas, F-87060 Limoges, France.. Several families of herbicides, especially diphenyl ether (DPE) and pyrimidinedione, target the plant tetrapyrrole biosynthesis pathways and in particular one key enzyme, protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase (PPO). When plants are treated with DPE or pyrimidinedione, an accumulation of protoporphyrin IX, the first photosensitizer of this pathway, is observed in cytosol where it becomes very deleterious under light. Indeed these herbicides trigger plant death in two distinct ways: (i) inhibition of chlorophylls and heme syntheses and (ii) a huge accumulation of protoporphyrin IX in cytosol. Recently, a strategy based on plant transgenesis that induces deregulation of the tetrapyrrole pathway by up- or down-regulation of genes encoding enzymes, such as glutamyl-tRNA reductase, porphobilinogen deaminase and PPO, has been developed. Against all expectations, only transgenic crops overexpressing PPO showed resistance to DPE and pyrimidinedione. This herbicide resistance of transgenic crops leads to the hypothesis that the overall consumption of herbicides will be reduced as previously reported for glyphosate-resistant transgenic crops. In this review, after a rapid presentation of plant tetrapyrrole biosynthesis, we show how only PPO enzyme can be the target of DPE and how transgenic crops can be further resistant not only to herbicide but also to abiotic stress such as drought or chilling. Keeping in mind that this approach is mostly prohibited in Europe, we attempt to discuss it to interest the scientific community, from plant physiologists to chemists, who work on the interface of photosensitizer optimization and agriculture.
