I found the field of Chemistry very interesting. Saw the article Application potential of dummy molecularly imprinted polymers as solid-phase extraction sorbents for determination of low-mass polybrominated diphenyl ethers in soil and sediment samples published in 2019.0. Formula: C12H10O, Reprint Addresses Marc, M (corresponding author), Opole Univ, Fac Chem, Dept Analyt & Ecol Chem, Ul Oleska 48, PL-45052 Opole, Poland.. The CAS is 101-84-8. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of Diphenyl oxide

Despite the introduction of restrictive regulations in the USA and the European Union, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are still found in various types of environmental and biological samples at significant concentration levels. The presence of these persistent organic pollutants in the environment raises important issues because of their negative impact on immunological and neurological systems, and on the hormonal balances in living organisms. From the analytical point of view, the final determination of PBDEs would entail substantial challenges, because it would necessitate conducting the pre-concentration of analytes, or sample clean up. The aim of the present study is to demonstrate the analytical application potential of developed dummy molecularly imprinted polymers as solid-phase extraction sorbents for the selective recognition of low-mass PBDEs. The 4,4′-dihydroxydiphenyl ether was employed as a dummy template of low-mass PBDEs. The developed types of the sorption materials were used in the sample preparation stage of the analytical procedure to determine the PBDE-47 and PBDE-99 levels in selected representatives of environmental samples reference materials of soil and bottom sediments. The recovery values of PBDE-47 and PBDE-99 from the studied solid samples ranged from 60% to 87%, depending on the applied DMIPs type.

The transfer hydrogenolysis of lignin derived aromatic ethers (benzyl phenyl ether, phenethyl phenyl ether and diphenyl ethers) have been investigated by using the coprecipitated Pd/Co as heterogeneous catalyst and 2propanol as H-donor/solvent. A quantitative conversion of benzyl phenyl ether into toluene and cyclohexanol was obtained after 180 min at 240 degrees C. The bimetallic Pd/Co catalyst is, by far, more efficient if compared to commercial Pd/C and Co-based catalytic systems showing, at the same time, a good reusability. The enhanced ability in the CeO bond cleavage in aromatic ethers is related to the formation of bimetallic Pd-Co ensembles, arisen from the preparation procedure adopted, as confirmed by a complete physico-chemical characterization that includes XRD, SEM, TEM, H-2-TPR, XPS and EXAFS analysis.

The present work aims to fabricate ultrasonic assisted microencapsulation of zinc triflate based on polyethersulfone (PES) as an efficient regioselective catalyst for Friedel-Crafts acylation. The catalyst was reused for consequent reactions. Ultrasound displayed an important role on selectivity for Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction due to the controlled release of Lewis acid in addition to its cavitational effect that decreases the reaction time and increases the yield of the reaction.

The current work explores deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as heat transfer fluids (HTFs) primarily for generating concentrated solar power. The eutectic composition of the DES comprising diphenyl ether and DL-menthol as the hydrogen bond acceptor and hydrogen bond donor was initially computed through the quantum chemical-based COSMO-SAC model. To improve upon the thermal performance and reduce the interfacial resistance, DESs were modified by dispersing hexagonal boron nitride nanoparticles with weight percent ranging from 0.02 to 0.10. Thermophysical properties, namely, density, viscosity, thermal conductivity, and heat capacity, of the HTFs were then measured as a function of temperature. Further, based on these four parameters, the Mouromtseff number (Mo) was calculated to rank the nanoparticle-dispersed DESs. The nanofluid consisting of DES-1 with 0.02 wt % of nanoparticles gave the highest Mo value, and hence, it was further considered for the experimental forced convection study and process simulation using an Aspen Plus simulator. From the forced convection experiment temperature profiles, the heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number (Nu) were evaluated and compared for nanofluids with the corresponding base fluid. The flow behavior of the thermal fluid along the characteristic length of the test section was investigated for both the laminar and turbulent regimes. The effectiveness of the HTF in terms of steam generation capacity was predicted, and it was observed that the nanofluid with 0.02 wt % was able to successfully convert 100% of the input water (15 kg/h) into superheated steam at the temperature of 494.15 K.

A highly regio- and diastereoselective, cyclization/hydroarylation reaction of 1,5- and 1,6-dienes with aromatic ethers and tertiary anilines was established by a cationic 2-picoline-tethered-half-sandwich scandium alkyl catalyst, which constitutes a process for producing a diverse array of cis-1,3-disubstituted arylated and trans-1,2-disubstituted benzylated methylcyclopentane derivatives in one step with 100% atom-efficiency. Furthermore, a mechanism involving a scandium-catalyzed aromatic ortho-C-H activation and alkene-insertion cascade was also proposed.

Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid supported on attapulgite powder (TFMSA/AP) and Mg-2 Si/gamma-Al2O3 were facilely prepared by impregnating TFMSA onto AP and Mg-2 Si onto gamma-Al2O3. The extraction residue from Yiwu lignite (YL (ER)) was subjected to non-catalytic hydroconversion (NCHC) and catalytic hydroconversion (CHC) over TFMSA/AP and Mg-2 Sity-Al2O3, respectively. Detailed molecular compositions of the soluble portions from the NCHC (SPNCHC) and CHC over TFMSA/AP (SPCHC-A) and Mg2Si/gamma-A1(2)O(3) (SPCHC-A ) were characterized with a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer. As a result, the yields of SP oic A and SP oic B are 19.6% and 17.5%, respectively, which are much higher than that of SP (NCHC) (1.04%), suggesting that both TFMSA/AP and Mg-2 Si/gamma-Al2O3 show excellent activity for the CHC of YL (ER). Arenes and arenols are predominant in SPCHC-A and SPCHC-B, respectively, while large amounts of alkanoates were detected in SP NcHc. The results indicate that TFMSA/AP effectively catalyzes the cleavage of C-ar-C(alk )and C-alk-O bridged bonds (BBs) in YL (ER) , while Mg2Si/gamma-Al(2)O(3 )significantly promotes the cleavage of C-O BBs in YL ER. Di(1-naphthyl)methane, 1-methylnaphthalene, oxydibenzene, and benzyloxybenzene were used as coal-related model compounds (CRMCs) for the CHC to further explore the catalysis of TFMSA/AP and Mg2Si/gamma-Al(2)O3. The results show that TFMSA/AP not only releases mobile H(+)but also heterolytically splits H-2 to form an immobile H- and a mobile H+, leading to the cleavage of C-ar-C(alk )and C-alk-O BBs in the CRMCs. In contrast, Mg2Si/gamma-Al(2)O3 facilitates heterolytically splitting H-2 to an immobile H- and a mobile H-, resulting in the cleavage of C-O BBs in the CRMCs.

Deep insight of reaction mechanism in lignin model compounds is helpful to achieve the directed depolymerization of lignin or biomass to chemicals or fuels. In this study, the density functional theory (DFT) calculation was employed to investigate the cleavage mechanism of the C-O bonds in lignin di-mers. Additionally, the intrinsic chemical reactivity of molecular in term of the Fukui function was applied to predict the most probable sites which react with hydrogen free radicals (H center dot). It was found that the O atoms in lignin dimers are the most reaction site involving H center dot because of the large f (0). By this method, the most rational path from a series of reaction paths was screen out. Apart from the Fukui function, the average local ionization energy (ALIE) was analyzed to prove the reliability of Fukui function. The kinetic analysis of the reaction path was performed to further understand the impact of temperature on the reaction rate constant (KTST). It is observed that benzyl phenyl ether (BPE) with higher KTST could be easily cleaved because of the relatively low energy barrier. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Environmental exposure to organohalogenated contaminants (OHCs), even at low concentrations, may cause detrimental effects on the development and health of wild birds. The present study investigated if environmental exposure to OHCs may influence the variation of multiple physiological parameters in Norwegian white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) nestlings. Plasma and feather samples were obtained from 70 nestlings at two archipelagos in Norway in 2015 and 2016. The selected physiological parameters were plasma concentrations of thyroid hormones (thyroxine, T4 and triiodothyronine, T3), plasma proteins (prealbumin, albumin, alpha(1)-, alpha(2)-, beta-and gamma-globulins) and selected blood clinical chemical parameters (BCCPs) associated with liver and kidney functioning. Feather concentrations of corticosterone (CORTf) were also included to investigate the overall stress level of the nestlings. Concentrations of all studied physiological parameters were within the ranges of those found in other species of free-living birds of prey nestlings and indicated that the white-tailed eagle nestlings were in good health. Our statistical models indicated that perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and legacy OHCs, such as polychlorinated biphenyls, organochlorinated pesticides and polybrominated diphenyl ethers, influenced only a minor fraction of the variation of plasma thyroid hormones, prealbumin and CORTf (5-15%), and partly explained the selected BCCPs (< 26%). Most of the variation in each studied physiological parameter was explained by variation between nests, which is most likely due to natural physiological variation of nestlings in these nests. This indicates the importance of accounting for between nest variation in future studies. In the present nestlings, OHC concentrations were relatively low and seem to have played a secondary role compared to natural variation concerning the variation of physiological parameters. However, our study also indicates a potential for OHC-induced effects on thyroid hormones, CORTf, prealbumin and BCCPs, which could be of concern in birds exposed to higher OHC concentrations than the present white-tailed eagle nestlings. The objective of the study was to determine the human serum elimination half-life of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) adjusted for ongoing exposure in subjects moving from a higher exposure region (North America) to a lower exposure region (Australia). The study population was comprised of exchange students and long-term visitors from North America moving to Brisbane, Australia (N = 27) and local residents (N = 23) who were followed by repeated serum sampling every other month. The local residents were sampled to adjust for ongoing exposure in Australia. Only one visitor remained in Australia for a period of time similar to the elimination half-life and had a sufficiently high initial concentration of PBDEs to derive a half-life. This visitor arrived in Australia in March of 2011 and remained in the country for 1.5 years. Since the magnitude of PBDE exposure is lower in Australia than in North America we observed an apparent 1st order elimination curve over time from which we have estimated the serum elimination half-lives for BDE28, BDE47, BDE99, BDE100, and BDE153 to be 0.942, 1.19, 1.03, 2.16, and 4.12 years, respectively. Uncertainty in the estimates were estimated using a Monte Carlo simulation. The human serum elimination half-life adjusted for ongoing exposure can allow us to assess the effectiveness and reduction in exposure in the general population following phase out of commercial penta- and octaBDE in 2004 in the United States. We report the synthesis, characterization, and spectroscopic investigations of a new responsive-at-metal cyclometalated platinum(II) complex. With mild chemical oxidants and reductants, it was possible to obtain the same complex in three different oxidation states and each of these complexes was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. We discovered that the platinum(II) complex displays strong solvatochromism in the solid state, which can be attributed to modulation of Pt…Pt interactions that results in switching between optical and photoluminescent states. Incorporating responsive-at-metal species as dynamic components in nanostructured materials might facilitate response amplification, sensing, actuation, or self-healing processes.
