For materials as BaCo(0.4)Fe(0.4)Zr(0.1)Y(0.1)O(3-delta)with three independent mobile charge carriers, hole, oxygen ion, and proton, a peculiar twofold diffusion and transition from hydration to hydrogenation in proton uptake are investigated by electrical conductivity relaxation method in this work. At 700 degrees C, the water incorporation reaction would happen in the formation of both hydration and hydrogenation. The hydration reaction would happen at the sacrifice of oxygen vacancy, and then, the incorporated proton diffuses from outer layer to the inner bulk. But due to much higher chemical diffusion coefficient of proton than oxygen vacancy, the highly mobile protons are charge compensated by holes, instead of waiting for the less mobile oxygen vacancy, and thus causes the speeding increased hole concentration, i.e., increased conductivity. So in the hydration reaction, the decoupled diffusion of proton and oxygen vacancy would result in a non-monotonic conductivity relaxation curve, i.e., twofold diffusion. After that, the proton uptake reaction would transit to hydrogenation, as total decreased conductivity in a monotonic curve.

This research presents the assessment of seasonal variation, accumulation pattern and ecological risk of selected endocrine disrupting compounds (S-EDCs) in sediment samples covering six sites in KimNguu river, Hanoi, Northern area of Vietnam. Selected EDCs compose polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Sediment sampling was carried out in dry season (April) and wet season (October) in 2018. Results pointed out a significant contamination with n-ary sumation (6)PCBs, n-ary sumation (16)PAHs and n-ary sumation 7PBDE concentrations ranging from 4.73 to 36.34 ng g(-1) dw, from 3.57 to 84.39 ng g(-1) dw and from 4.49 to 12.49 ng g(-1) dw, respectively. Composition analyses indicated the predominance of PCB 138, PCB 153, M-PAHs (Middle molecular weight PAHs: BaA, Chr, Pyr, Flt), BDE-47, BDE-99 and BDE-209. The values of TEQ(DL-PCBs), TEQ (n-ary sumation 8PAHs) and TEQ (n-ary sumation 16PAHs) range from 4.6 to 10.4 ng kg(-1) dw, from 0.28 to 1.28 ng g(-1) dw and from 0.29 to 1.38 ng g(-1) dw, respectively. Ecological risks of S-EDCs range from very low to medium levels in the sediment of KimNguu river.

The design of novel materials to use simultaneously in an ocular system for driven therapeutics and wound healing is still challenging. Here, we produced nanocomposites of tungsten disulfide carriers with spherical cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (NPs) as core inside a cubic iron oxide NPs shell (WS2/s-CoFe2O4@c-Fe3O4). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed that 10 nm s-CoFe2O4@c-Fe3O4 NPs were attached on the WS2 sheet surfaces. The cytotoxicity of the WS2 sheets and nanocomposites were evaluated on bovine cornea endothelial cells (BCECs) using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay for a duration of three days. The MTT assay results showed low toxicity of the WS2 sheets on BCECs by 67% cell viability at 100 mu g/mL in 24 h, while the nanocomposites show 50% cell viability in the same conditions. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of nanocomposites revealed the excellent T-2-weighted imaging with an r(2) contrast of 108 mM(-1) S-1. The in vitro photothermal therapy based on WS2 sheets and WS2/s-CoFe2O4 @c-Fe3O4 nanocomposites using 808 nm laser showed that the maximum thermal energy dispatched in medium at different applied power densities (1200 mw, 1800, 2200, 2600 mW) was for 0.1 mg/mL of the sample solution. The migration assay of BCECs showed that the wound healing was approximately 20% slower for the cell exposed by nanocomposites compared with the control (no exposed BCECs). We believe that WS2/s-CoFe2O4@c-Fe3O4 nanocomposites have a synergic effect as photothermal therapy agents for eye diseases and could be a target in an ocular system using MRI.

Quantum dots (QDs) were suggested a decade ago as a means of spectral decoy to divert rocket attacks from flying objects such as satellites but have not yet found industrial applications. A possible reason is that these advanced nanomaterials are unstable in the long-term under the forces exhibited on a flying object and the nanoparticles might agglomerate to form larger microparticles, which have a different, unwanted spectral footprint. This work proposes an on-board (in situ) real-time synthesis of quantum dots on a satellite as a result of an interdisciplinary innovation that combines nanomaterial chemistry, heating and mixing with batch microfluidics, and microfabrication of a miniaturized chip. We employed a microchip as the in situ reaction chamber due to its capability of fast, compact synthesis. The implementation of the space micro-reactor, on the other hand, leads to other fundamental challenges that need to be solved such as robust pump-free fluid motion and quick synthesis of quantum dots in less than 180 s which is equivalent to the typical time a rocket needs to reach the satellite from the ground. Additionally, quantum dots need to be tailored in the type of material and size to replicate the spectral signal of the to-beprotected space asset while the synthesis process needs to be robust and resilient to work reliably and automatically under the demanding conditions of a flying object. In this study, we selected cadmium selenide (CdSe) and lead selenide (PbSe) as the materials of choice. Our synthesis process aims to simplify and tailor CdSe and PbSe quantum dots to match the above demands. The produced quantum dots were characterized by their wavelength emission spectra and high-angle annular dark-held scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF STEM) images. Results show that both CdSe and PbSe quantum dots have been successfully synthesized within a maximum of 10 minutes. While the chosen CdSe-based synthesis was unable to reach IR-emitting sizes within several minutes, we managed to meet all other research targets. The synthesized PbSe 013s were able to reach the mock-spectrum and could produce an emission wavelength peak from 1200 to 1400 nm. This work finally provides insights into the limits of batch synthesis in a microfabricated nanodot chip, such as the need to improve reproducibility and enhance particle growth. Based on this learning, we propose a self-priming flow microchip synthesis that can capitalize on mixing as a key asset to overcome those limits.

The relative abundances of compound classes (e.g. CHO1, CHO2 and CHNO1) in fossil fuels have been widely used in previous researches based on the data from mass spectrometry (MS). However, such observations are susceptible to the ionization bias of MS due to the variation of ionization efficiency, which may affect the downstream quantitative analysis. Many efforts have been devoted to investigating the ionization efficiencies of a variety of model compounds, but not complex and diverse mixtures. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate how quantitatively ionization bias affects the MS analysis of complex mixtures. In this study, ionization bias was preliminarily investigated by comparing the elemental compositions obtained from MS-analysis via different ionization methods with the data acquired by a standard elemental analyzer. A coal-derived liquid and mixtures of five model compounds were ionized by atmospheric-pressure chemical ionization (APCI), electrospray ionization or direct analysis in real-time, followed by analyzing using a high-resolution Orbitrap MS to obtain elemental compositions. MS-based results via APCI ion source showed the closest elemental compositions to those obtained from the elemental analyzer. For the MS-based analysis, the abundances of S-and O-containing compounds were significantly lower and that of N-containing compounds was clearly higher compared to ultimate analysis. The abundances of compound classes were adjusted to provide a closer approximation of the actual contents, which might better serve for the downstream quantitative analysis. Although absolute quantification still needs additional work, the adjusted MS-based analysis provides not only the molecular level data, but also a better quantification ability compared to previous analytical approaches.

Isohexides are versatile carbohydrate-based building blocks for designing biodegradable polymers with tunable biodegradability and enhanced material properties owing to their unique high structural rigidity and hydrophilicity. However, the limited reactivity and thermal stability of isohexides, especially the isomers with endo-hydroxyl groups, hamper their practical applications. In this work, fully aliphatic copolyesters based on two isohexide stereoisomers, isosorbide (IS) and isomannide (IM), were comparatively synthesized via a mild lipase-catalyzed polymerization [enzymatic polymerization (EP)] technique. The products were obtained with fairly high molecular weights (M-n values: 15,300-31,500 g.mol(-1)), negligible degree of discoloration, and 20-40 degrees C higher thermal stabilities (T-d,T-5% : 335-360 degrees C) compared to those of their counterparts obtained by melt polymerization (MP). Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation revealed that the endo-OH is preferred to the exo-OH under the EP process having a high hydrogen-bonding frequency with the catalytic site of CALB (lipase immobilized from Candida antarctica, CALB), and it also requires considerably low energy (70-100 kJ.mol(-1)) to form the second tetrahedral transition-state intermediates. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) study further elucidates the interesting influence of the EP process on inducing specific beta-type crystalline structures.

To investigate the status of organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) in indoor dust in China, published scientific studies were systematically collected and analyzed. The analysis revealed large variations among microenvironments, including offices (median: 14.59 mu g/g) and e-waste workshops (median: 13.36 mu g/g), with high levels of OPFRs contamination. Chlorinated organophosphate ester flame retardants (CI-OPFRs) were the dominant OPFRs (52-75%) in most indoor dust samples; however, in ewaste workshops, aryl- and alkyl-OPFRs were the most abundant. As an alternative flame retardant to polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), OPFRs concentrations have increased in recent years in indoor environments in China. Urban sources are of greatest concern: Shanghai (mean: 13.54 mu g/g), Guangzhou (mean: 10.76 mu g/g), and Beijing (mean: 9.37 mu g/g) have high EOPFRs contamination levels in indoor dust. Compared to other countries, the OPFRs concentrations in indoor dust in all studied microenvironments from China (median: 8.81 mu g/g) were low. The estimated daily intakes of EOPFRs by dust ingestion for adults and children were 2.12 and 11.06 ng/kg/body weight/day (average), respectively. Human exposure to OPFRs through the accidental intake of indoor dust does not pose a direct health risk to the Chinese population. Hydrothermal treatment of gadolinium nitrate and 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H2NDC) afforded a new metal-organic framework compound, {[Gd-4(NDC)(6)(H2O)(6)]center dot 2H(2)O}n(1). Compound 1 has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, therrmogravimetric analysis (TGA) and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. It is crystallized in the monoclinic system with the P2(1)/n space group. Four crystallographically distinct Gd (III) centres are interconnected with each other through bridged carboxylato oxygen atoms and water molecules to form tetranuclear secondary building units, which are further connected through the carboxylato ligand and the network propagates along the crystallographic ac plane to form a 2D structure. Subsequent reinforcement from the remaining carboxylato oxygen atoms gives rise to a robust 3D framework structure. Thermogravimetric analysis demonstrates that compound 1 is fairly stable after dehydration under a nitrogen atmosphere. Notably, compound 1 is capable of catalyzing the O-arylation reaction efficiently between substituted phenols and bromoarene under heterogeneous conditions at 80 degrees C to afford unsymmetrical diarylethers. A highly efficient PIFA-mediated Hofmann reaction of o-(pyridin-2-yl)aryl amides has been developed to selectively and rapidly construct various potential photocatalytically active 6H-pyrido[1,2-c]quinazolin-6-one derivatives. The use of a nontoxic and eco-friendly organoiodine reagent, operational simplicity, short reaction time, mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, high functional group tolerance, and excellent yields make this protocol very simple, practical, and easy to handle. It provides a feasible platform for developing novel organic fluorophore structures. Preliminary research for this purpose shows that the N-5-methylated pyridoquinazolinone 3a could be used as a photocatalyst in several organic transformations, indicating that it is a very promising lead fluorophore for developing new superior photocatalysts.
