This paper describes the pyrolysis of Poplar fluff (from Populus alba) using on-line apparatus, and carbonization process at 850 degrees C using the fixed bed reactor. Characteristics of pyrolysis products were examined. Elemental and chemical analyses were shown that Poplar fluff has higher energy content characterized by increased content of fibrous structure (particularly cellulose). Independent parallel reactions model very well describes devolatilization process. It was found that increased amount of extractives can significantly affect on increased release of light gaseous products, but declining hydrocarbons, mostly the alkanes. Liquid product is mainly composed of phenolics, aldehydes, acids, esters and ketones. The carbonization process produces the great abundance of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH’s), where naphthalene is the most abundant. Mechanism for PAH’s formation was suggested. This study represents the first step in a much wider and more comprehensive way in thermal conversion processes of this type of fuel.

Product Details of 101-84-8. I found the field of Materials Science very interesting. Saw the article Facet-dependent Catalysis of CuNi Nanocatalysts toward 4-Nitrophenol Reduction Reaction published in 2020.0, Reprint Addresses Fang, JY (corresponding author), SUNY Binghamton, Dept Chem, Binghamton, NY 13902 USA.; Fang, JY (corresponding author), SUNY Binghamton, Mat Sci & Engn Program, Binghamton, NY 13902 USA.. We report a facile method to fabricate CuNi nano-octahedra and nanocubes using a colloidal synthesis approach. The CuNi nanocrystals terminated with exclusive crystallographic facets were controlled and achieved by a group of synergetic capping ligands in a hot solution system. Specifically, the growth of {111}-bounded CuNi nano-octahedra is derived by a thermodynamic control, whereas the generation of {100}-terminated CuNi nanocubes is steered by a kinetic capping of chloride. Using a reduction of 4-nitrophenol with sodium borohydride as a model reaction, CuNi nano-octahedra and nanocubes demonstrated a strong facet-dependence due to their different surface energies although both exhibited remarkable catalytic activity with the high rate constant over mass (k/m). A kinetic study indicated that this is a pseudo first-order reaction with an excess of sodium borohydride. CuNi nanocubes as the catalysts showed better catalytic performance (k/m = 385 s(-1)center dot g(-1)) than the CuNi nano-octahedra (k/m = 120 s(-1)center dot g(-1)), indicating that 4-nitrophenol and hydrogen were adsorbed on the {100} facets with their molecules parallel to the surface much easier than those on {111} facets.

This study evaluated the applicability of a rapid analytical method using a headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS) technique to identify gamma-irradiated soybeans (0.1-5 kGy). From the partial least squares discriminant analysis used to discriminate between non-irradiated and irradiated soybean samples, 1,7-hexadecadiene was selected as the identifying marker. Response surface methodology experiments were used to determine the optimal HS-SPME extraction conditions including a carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane fiber with an extraction temperature of 98 degrees C and an extraction time of 55 min. 1,7-Hexdecadiene was detected in all samples irradiated at >= 0.1 kGy under the optimized HS-SPME-GC/MS conditions, and the unique presence of the marker in a gamma-irradiated sample was verified by comparing the results from heat, steam, microwave, sonication, and ultraviolet treatments. The comparisons of the identification properties for various conventional methods validated several advances in HS-SPME-GC/MS analysis in terms of rapid analysis, high sensitivity, and absence of solvent.

Control of the nanoscale molecular ordering and charge-carrier mobility of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) was achieved by the combined use of processing additives and thermal annealing. Evaluation of four processing additives (1,8-octanedithiol (ODT), diphenyl ether (DPE), 1-chloronaphthalene (CN), and 1,8-diiodooctane (DIO), which are commonly used for the fabrication of organic solar cells, revealed that the nanoscale molecular ordering and, therefore, the charge-carrier mobility, are largely affected by the additives, as demonstrated by spectral absorption, X-ray diffraction, and atomic force microscopy. Thermal annealing selectively influenced the morphological changes, depending on the solubility of P3HT in the additive at high temperature. In the case of CN, in which P3HT can be dissolved at moderate temperature, significant molecular ordering was observed even without thermal annealing. For DIO, in which P3HT is only soluble at elevated temperature, the mobility reached 1.14 x 10(-1) cm(2) V-1 s(-1) only after annealing. ODT and DPE were not effective as processing additives in a single-component P3HT. This study provides insight for designing the processing conditions to control the morphology and charge-transport properties of polymers.

The relative abundances of compound classes (e.g. CHO1, CHO2 and CHNO1) in fossil fuels have been widely used in previous researches based on the data from mass spectrometry (MS). However, such observations are susceptible to the ionization bias of MS due to the variation of ionization efficiency, which may affect the downstream quantitative analysis. Many efforts have been devoted to investigating the ionization efficiencies of a variety of model compounds, but not complex and diverse mixtures. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate how quantitatively ionization bias affects the MS analysis of complex mixtures. In this study, ionization bias was preliminarily investigated by comparing the elemental compositions obtained from MS-analysis via different ionization methods with the data acquired by a standard elemental analyzer. A coal-derived liquid and mixtures of five model compounds were ionized by atmospheric-pressure chemical ionization (APCI), electrospray ionization or direct analysis in real-time, followed by analyzing using a high-resolution Orbitrap MS to obtain elemental compositions. MS-based results via APCI ion source showed the closest elemental compositions to those obtained from the elemental analyzer. For the MS-based analysis, the abundances of S-and O-containing compounds were significantly lower and that of N-containing compounds was clearly higher compared to ultimate analysis. The abundances of compound classes were adjusted to provide a closer approximation of the actual contents, which might better serve for the downstream quantitative analysis. Although absolute quantification still needs additional work, the adjusted MS-based analysis provides not only the molecular level data, but also a better quantification ability compared to previous analytical approaches.

We synthesized a novel material, namely palladized zero-valent zinc (Pd/ZVZ), and investigated its efficiency for the degradation of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). The plated Pd significantly enhances the degradation rate of PBDEs by ZVZ at the optimum loading of 1% by weight. In the Pd/ZVZ system, very few lower BDEs were accumulated during the degradation of 2,2′,4,4′- tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47) and the final product is diphenyl ether, whereas the ZVZ system only debrominates BDE-47 to di-BDE and further debromination becomes very difficult. The degradation rates of BDEs by ZVZ greatly decreased with decreased bromination level, while in Pd/ZVZ system, the degradation rates of PBDEs did not show a significant difference. These indicate different mechanisms. This was confirmed by investigating the debromination pathways of the PBDEs in both systems. We determined that a H-transfer was the dominant mechanism in the Pd/ZVZ system. In addition, the reactivity of Pd/ZVZ to BDE-47 is pH-independent, which has a great advantage for various applications over ZVZ alone. Our study provides a new approach for the remediation of the PBDEs pollution. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Herein, we describe an organic photoredox system for direct arene C-H radiofluorination, using a peroxide oxidizing agent and LEDs as the light source. In conjunction with an optimized photocatalyst and a microtubing reactor, this system is applicable to a range of electron-rich aromatics and heteroaromatics. We also demonstrate the feasibility of C-H radiofluorination without an azeotropic drying step, which greatly simplifies the workflow of the labeling process.

Ceria (CeO2) is a technologically promising compound due to a remarkable set of properties. However, the use of ceria also has drawbacks, the most pronounced of which is the material’s poor thermal stability. This property limits the use of ceria-based materials at elevated temperatures, in many technological applications. To overcome this, the addition of TiO2 is proposed. Such addition essentially creates a new material system, namely Ce1-xTixO2. In this work, an array of techniques were employed to determine the thermal stability of this new compound range (X < 0.2). Results show that when nano-sized, TiO(2 )is fully soluble in CeO2 in this range. After heat treatment, however, the material coarsens and the solubility limit decreases to less than 2 at.%. as the compound undergoes significant changes. These include solute segregation and phase separation. Finally, the factors that affect compound stability are discussed. Recommanded Product: 101-84-8.
