Silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles were functionalized with aminopropylsilyl groups and then condensed with 2-benzoylthiophene to produce a NS Schiff base chelating ligand for complexation of Cu (II) species. Characterization of the synthesized nanocomposite was performed by several spectroscopic and microscopic analyses to reveal its physical and chemical properties. It was applied as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst in promoting O-arylation reaction of phenols with aryl halides for the synthesis of diaryl ethers using deep eutectic solvents (DESs) based on choline chloride as reaction media. The catalyst and DES could be easily recycled up to five times without a significant effect on the reaction progress. The use of green and recoverable reaction medium, easy work-up, easy separation of the catalyst with the assistance of an external magnetic field, short reaction times, and high yields of products are the main merits of this protocol.

The direct sulfonation is a cheap process but introduces the valuable sulfonic acid groups onto the backbone of aromatic polymers for proton exchange membrane fuel cell applications. However, the chain-scission during sulfonation degrades the polymer backbone by cleavage of the linkages between the arylene rings. If the sulfonation is conducted at a relatively high temperature for long time, the degradation may be significant. In this paper, the chain-scission mechanisms of the typical aromatic polymers are studied in terms of transition states and activation energies using density functional theory calculations, and the improvement of the overall performances of sulfonated proton conducting materials is discussed.

Annual air samples were collected at various sites in the Fildes Peninsula, West Antarctica from December 2010 to January 2018 using XAD-2 resin passive air samplers to investigate concentrations, temporal trends and potential sources of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in Antarctic air. Relatively low concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (Sigma(19)PCBs: 1.5-29.7 pg/m(3)), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) (Sigma 12PBDEs: 0.2-2.9 pg/m(3)) and organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) (Sigma(13)OCPs: 101-278 pg/m(3)) were found in the atmosphere of West Antarctica. PCB-11, BDE-47 and hexachlorobenzene (HCB) were the predominant compounds in the atmosphere. The concentrations of PCBs, HCHs, DDTs and endosulfans were found to show decreasing temporal trends, whereas uniform temporal trends were observed for HCB. The atmospheric half-life values for PCBs, HCHs, DDTs and endosulfans in Antarctic air were estimated for the first time, using regressions of the natural logarithm of the concentrations versus the number of years, obtaining the values of 2.0, 2.0, 2.4 and 1.2 year, respectively. An increasing ratio of alpha-HCH/gamma-HCH indicated long residence time for alpha-HCH and possible transformation of gamma-HCH to alpha-HCH in the atmosphere. The ratios of p,p’-DDT/p,p’-DDE were mostly lower than unity in this study, which could be attributed to aged sources. It was found that long-range atmospheric transport was still considered to be the main contributing factor to the atmospheric levels of the POPs in West Antarctica whereas the contribution of human activities at the Chinese Great Wall Station was minor. The results of this study give a view on the most recent temporal trends and provide new insights regarding the occurrence of various POPs in the Antarctic atmosphere. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Pyridazinone analogues have been known to be potential candidates for anticonvulsant agents. We have identified several pyridazinone-based anticonvulsant agents. As a continuation to our previous research, a series of hybrid pyridazinone-thiazole connected through amide linkage were designed and synthesized. Among these, compound SP-5F demonstrated significant anticonvulsant activity with median effective dose of 24.38 mg/kg (MES) and 88.23 mg/kg (scPTz). Results of GABA estimation showed a marked increase in the GABA level when compared with control. Molecular docking studies at the active site of GABA receptor, further confirmed the GABA modulatory effects of SP-5F.

I found the field of Chemistry very interesting. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of Diphenyl oxide

The Kamlet and Taft solvent basicity parameter, beta, and solvent polarity/polarizability parameter, pi*, were analyzed in terms of properties of the solvent molecules derived from computational chemistry. The analysis of beta, using a larger data set, confirms earlier conclusions that, for aprotic solvents, the basicity is determined by the partial charge on the most negative atom of the solvent molecule and by the energy of the highest energy molecular orbital associated with the donor site. For alcohols and nitrogen bases containing N-H moieties, the beta values deviate systematically from those for the non-hydrogen bonding solvents. Analysis of the polarity/polarizability parameter, pi*, shows that it depends directly on the dipole moment, and quadrupolar amplitude of the solvent and on the energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital, but decreases linearly with increasing solvent polarizability.

I found the field of Chemistry very interesting. Saw the article Catalysis with magnetically retrievable and recyclable nanoparticles layered with Pd(0) for C-C/C-O coupling in water published in 2020. Computed Properties of C12H10O, Reprint Addresses Singh, AK (corresponding author), Indian Inst Technol Delhi, Dept Chem, New Delhi 110016, India.. The CAS is 101-84-8. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of Diphenyl oxide

Nanoparticles layered with palladium(0) were prepared from nano-sized magnetic Fe3O4 by coating it with silica and then reacting sequentially with phenylselenyl chloride under an N-2 atmosphere and palladium(ii) chloride in water. The resulting Fe3O4@SiO2@SePh@Pd(0) NPs are magnetically retrievable and the first example of NPs in which the outermost layer of Pd(0) is mainly held by selenium. The weight percentage of Pd in the NPs was found to be 1.96 by ICP-AES. The NPs were authenticated via TEM, SEM-EDX, XPS, and powder XRD and found to be efficient as catalysts for the C-O and C-C (Suzuki-Miyaura) coupling reactions of ArBr/Cl in water. The oxidation state of Pd in the NPs having size distribution from similar to 12 to 18 nm was inferred as zero by XPS. They can be recycled more than seven times. The main features of the proposed protocols are their mild reaction conditions, simplicity, and efficiency as the catalyst can be separated easily from the reaction mixture by an external magnet and reused for a new reaction cycle. The optimum loading (in mol% of Pd) was found to be 0.1-1.0 and 0.01-1.0 for O-arylation and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling, respectively. For ArCl, the required amount of NPs was more as compared to that needed for ArBr. The nature of catalysis is largely heterogeneous.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a class of brominated flame retardants (BFRs), present in the environment, animals, and humans. Their levels, distribution, and human exposure have been studied extensively, and over the last decade, various legal measures have been taken to prohibit or minimize their production and use due to the increasing amount of evidence of their harmful effects on human and animal health. Our aim here was to make a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the levels and distribution of PBDEs in the aquatic environment, air, and soil, in indoor dust, and in humans. To fulfill this, we searched through Web of Science for literature data reported in the last five years (2015-2019) on levels of at least six key PBDE congeners in abovementioned matrices. According to our summarized data, significant PBDE mass concentrations/fractions are still being detected in various sample types across the world, which implies that PBDE contamination is an ongoing problem. Secondary sources of PBDEs like contaminated soils and landfills, especially those with electronic and electrical waste (e-waste), represent a particular risk to the future and therefore require a special attention of scientists.

A new marine sediment certified reference material (IAEA 459) with very low concentrations (gkg(-1)) for a variety of persistent organic contaminants (POPs) listed by the Stockholm Convention, as well as other POPs and priority substances (PSs) listed in many environmental monitoring programs was developed by the IAEA. The sediment material was collected from the Ham River estuary in South Korea, and the assigned final values were derived from robust statistics on the results provided by selected laboratories which demonstrated technical and quality competence, following the guidance given in ISO Guide 35. The robust mean of the laboratory means was assigned as certified values, for those compounds where the assigned value was derived from at least five datasets and its relative expanded uncertainty was less than 40% of the assigned value (most of the values ranging from 8 to 20%). All the datasets were derived from at least two different analytical techniques which have allowed the assignment of certified concentrations for 22 polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners, 6 organochlorinated (OC) pesticides, 5 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and 18 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs). Mass fractions of compounds that did not fulfill the criteria of certification are considered information values, which include 29 PAHs, 11 PCBs, 16 OC pesticides, and 5 PBDEs. The extensive characterization and associated uncertainties at concentration levels close to the marine sediment quality guidelines will make CRM 459 a valuable matrix reference material for use in marine environmental monitoring programs.

Viscosity of body fluid is an established biomarker of pathological conditions. Abnormality of cellular viscosity occurs when cells are challenged with external stresses. Small molecule probes to assess the viscosity are sought after for both disease diagnostics and basic studies. Fluorescence based probes are particular attractive due to their potentials for convenient and high spatiotemporal resolution microscopic monitoring of biological samples. The dyes with a floppy push-pull backbone or dyes with a rotatable substituent exhibits a viscosity responsive fluorescence enhancement and therefore viable viscosity probes. The scaffold of the existing viscosity probes contains typically one such floppy site. Therefore, they typically linearly respond to log(viscosity). We argue that minor viscosity fluctuation could potentially be physiological as the biological system is dynamic. We wish to develop a type of conceptually-new, threshold-limited viscosity probes, to complement the existing probes. Such probes do not exhibit a fluorescence enhancement when challenged with minor and presumably physiological enhancement of viscosity. When the viscosity is higher than a certain threshold, their fluorescence turns on. We hypothesize that a dye with two far-apart floppy sites could potentially yield such a threshold-limited signal and designed VPZ2 and VPZ3. Through spectral titration, VPZ3 was found to yield the desired threshold-limited signal. VPZ3 was suitable for in vitro bioimaging of viscosity under one-photon or two-photon excitation. VPZ3 is potentially useful in many downstream applications. Future work includes fine-tune of the threshold to allow tailored limit for fluorescence turn-on to better meet the need of different applications. Besides the implications in the real-world applications, the design concept could also be translated to design of alternative substrates.
