Category: ethers-buliding-blocks. I found the field of Gastroenterology & Hepatology very interesting. Saw the article The Influence of Disease Activity on Pregnancy Outcomes in Women With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis published in 2021, Reprint Addresses Park, JJ (corresponding author), Yonsei Univ, Severance Hosp, Dept Internal Med, Div Gastroenterol,Coll Med, 50-1 Yonsei Ro, Seoul 03722, South Korea.. Background and Aims: Robust evidence regarding the impact of disease activity on pregnancy outcomes in women with inflammatory bowel disease [IBD] is crucial for both clinicians and patients in preparing a birth plan. We sought to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the pooled influences of disease activity on pregnancy outcomes in women with IBD. Methods: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE and the COCHRANE library to identify articles comparing pregnancy outcomes between active and inactive IBD at the time of conception or during pregnancy. A meta-analysis was performed using a random-effects model to pool estimates and report odds ratios [ORs]. Results: A total of 28 studies were identified as eligible for the meta-analysis. In women with active IBD, the pooled ORs for low birth weight [LBW], preterm birth, small for gestational age [SGA], spontaneous abortion and stillbirths were respectively 3.81 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.81-8.02), 2.42 [95% CI 1.74-3.35], 1.48 [95% CI 1.19-1.85], 1.87 [95% CI 1.17-3.0] and 2.27 [95% CI 1.03-5.04] compared to women with inactive IBD. In the subgroup analysis based on disease type, women with active ulcerative colitis had an increased risk of LBW, preterm birth and spontaneous abortion. Women with active Crohn’s disease had a higher risk of preterm birth, SGA and spontaneous abortion. Conclusions: Active IBD during the periconception period and pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Our data suggest that pregnancy should be planned when the disease is quiescent, and continuous disease control is important even during pregnancy.

A highly regio- and diastereoselective, cyclization/hydroarylation reaction of 1,5- and 1,6-dienes with aromatic ethers and tertiary anilines was established by a cationic 2-picoline-tethered-half-sandwich scandium alkyl catalyst, which constitutes a process for producing a diverse array of cis-1,3-disubstituted arylated and trans-1,2-disubstituted benzylated methylcyclopentane derivatives in one step with 100% atom-efficiency. Furthermore, a mechanism involving a scandium-catalyzed aromatic ortho-C-H activation and alkene-insertion cascade was also proposed.

The current work explores deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as heat transfer fluids (HTFs) primarily for generating concentrated solar power. The eutectic composition of the DES comprising diphenyl ether and DL-menthol as the hydrogen bond acceptor and hydrogen bond donor was initially computed through the quantum chemical-based COSMO-SAC model. To improve upon the thermal performance and reduce the interfacial resistance, DESs were modified by dispersing hexagonal boron nitride nanoparticles with weight percent ranging from 0.02 to 0.10. Thermophysical properties, namely, density, viscosity, thermal conductivity, and heat capacity, of the HTFs were then measured as a function of temperature. Further, based on these four parameters, the Mouromtseff number (Mo) was calculated to rank the nanoparticle-dispersed DESs. The nanofluid consisting of DES-1 with 0.02 wt % of nanoparticles gave the highest Mo value, and hence, it was further considered for the experimental forced convection study and process simulation using an Aspen Plus simulator. From the forced convection experiment temperature profiles, the heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number (Nu) were evaluated and compared for nanofluids with the corresponding base fluid. The flow behavior of the thermal fluid along the characteristic length of the test section was investigated for both the laminar and turbulent regimes. The effectiveness of the HTF in terms of steam generation capacity was predicted, and it was observed that the nanofluid with 0.02 wt % was able to successfully convert 100% of the input water (15 kg/h) into superheated steam at the temperature of 494.15 K.

The transfer hydrogenolysis of lignin derived aromatic ethers (benzyl phenyl ether, phenethyl phenyl ether and diphenyl ethers) have been investigated by using the coprecipitated Pd/Co as heterogeneous catalyst and 2propanol as H-donor/solvent. A quantitative conversion of benzyl phenyl ether into toluene and cyclohexanol was obtained after 180 min at 240 degrees C. The bimetallic Pd/Co catalyst is, by far, more efficient if compared to commercial Pd/C and Co-based catalytic systems showing, at the same time, a good reusability. The enhanced ability in the CeO bond cleavage in aromatic ethers is related to the formation of bimetallic Pd-Co ensembles, arisen from the preparation procedure adopted, as confirmed by a complete physico-chemical characterization that includes XRD, SEM, TEM, H-2-TPR, XPS and EXAFS analysis.

I found the field of Chemistry very interesting. Formula: C12H10O, Reprint Addresses Marc, M (corresponding author), Opole Univ, Fac Chem, Dept Analyt & Ecol Chem, Ul Oleska 48, PL-45052 Opole, Poland.. The CAS is 101-84-8. Despite the introduction of restrictive regulations in the USA and the European Union, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are still found in various types of environmental and biological samples at significant concentration levels. The presence of these persistent organic pollutants in the environment raises important issues because of their negative impact on immunological and neurological systems, and on the hormonal balances in living organisms. From the analytical point of view, the final determination of PBDEs would entail substantial challenges, because it would necessitate conducting the pre-concentration of analytes, or sample clean up. The aim of the present study is to demonstrate the analytical application potential of developed dummy molecularly imprinted polymers as solid-phase extraction sorbents for the selective recognition of low-mass PBDEs. The 4,4′-dihydroxydiphenyl ether was employed as a dummy template of low-mass PBDEs. The developed types of the sorption materials were used in the sample preparation stage of the analytical procedure to determine the PBDE-47 and PBDE-99 levels in selected representatives of environmental samples reference materials of soil and bottom sediments. The recovery values of PBDE-47 and PBDE-99 from the studied solid samples ranged from 60% to 87%, depending on the applied DMIPs type.

Hepatic cancer is a serious disease with high morbidity and mortality. Theranostic agents with effective diagnostic and therapeutic capability are highly needed for the treatment of hepatic cancer. Herein, we aimed to develop a novel mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA)-based theranostic agent for T1/T2 dual magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided cancer chemo-photothermal therapy. Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO)-loaded MPDA NPs (MPDA@SPIO) was firstly prepared, followed by modifying with a targeted molecule of sialic acid (SA) and chelating with Fe3+ (SA-MPDA@SPIO/Fe3+ NPs). After that, doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded SA-MPDA@SPIO/Fe3+ NPs (SA-MPDA@SPIO/DOX/Fe3+) was prepared for tumor theranostics. The prepared SAPEG-MPDA@SPIO/ Fe3+ NPs were water-dispersible and biocompatible as evidenced by MTT assay. In vitro photothermal and relaxivity property suggested that the novel theranostic agent possessed excellent photothermal conversion capability and photostability, with relaxivity of being r(1) = 4.29 mM(-1)s(-1) and r(2) = 105.53 mM(-1)s(-1), respectively. SAPEG-MPDA@SPIO/Fe3+ NPs could effectively encapsulate the DOX, showing dual pH- and thermal-triggered drug release behavior. In vitro and in vivo studies revealed that SA-MPDA@SPIO/DOX/Fe3+ NPs could effectively target to the hepatic tumor tissue, which was possibly due to the specific interaction between SA and the overexpressed E-selectin. This behavior also endowed SA-MPDA@SPIO/DOX/Fe3+ NPs with a more precise T1-T2 dual mode contrast imaging effect than the one without SA modification. In addition, SAPEG-MPDA@SPIO/DOX/Fe3+ NPs displayed a superior therapeutic effect, which was due to its active targeting ability and combined effects of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy. These results demonstrated that SAPEG-MPDA@SPIO/DOX/Fe3+ NPs is an effective targeted nanoplatform for tumor theranostics, having potential value in the effective treatment of hepatic cancer.

Samples of gas and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) were collected in Dalian, China, a typical coastal city, to determine the concentrations, seasonal variations, influential factors, sources, and gas-PM2.5 partitioning of polybrominated Biphenyl ethers (PBDEs), novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs), and dechlorane plus (DPs) in the ambient air. Annual average concentrations of Sigma 7PBDEs, BDE209, Sigma(6)NBFRs, and DPs were 4.40 +/- 2.93, 1460 +/- 2500, 7.81 +/- 6.85, and 0.15 +/- 0.14 pg/m(3) for the gas phase, and 2.68 +/- 1.64, 4291 +/- 4306, 13.6 +/- 23.4, and 0.31 +/- 0.22 pg/m(3) for the fine particle phase, respectively. BDE209 was the dominant congener, followed by HBB and BEH-TEBP, and seasonal variations in air concentrations were apparent for BFRs, especially those in the gas phase. Moreover, meteorological parameters and criteria air pollutants revealed significant positive correlations between temperature and less-brominated BFRs in the gas phase, and between PM2.5 and highly-brominated BFRs in the particle phase. This suggests that the presence of these compounds in ambient air may largely result from combustion-related processes. Furthermore, an analysis of the gas-PM2.5 partitioning of BFRs and DPs suggested that BFRs and DPs mostly attained equilibrium, except for some NBFRs. Due to the ban of commercial penta-, octa-, and deca-BDEs by the Stockholm Convention, emissions from historical use and combustion are becoming the important sources of PBDEs in China.

Photoredox and Ni catalysis are combined to produce diaryl ethers under mild conditions. A broad range of aryl halides and phenol derivatives are cross-coupled in the presence of a readily available organic photocatalyst and NiBr2 (dtbpy). Symmetrical diaryl ethers have also been directly obtained from aryl bromides in the presence of water. Mechanistic investigations support the involvement of Ni(0) species at the outset of the reaction and a Ni(II)/Ni(III)-photocatalyzed single electron transfer process preceding the productive C(sp(2))-OAr reductive elimination.

Pearl-farming leads to significant plastic pollution in French Polynesia (FP) as the end of life of most farming gear is currently poorly managed. Plastic debris released into the aquatic environment accumulates, with potentially detrimental effects on the lagoon ecosystem and pearl oyster Pinctada margaritifera, a species of ecological, commercial and social value. Here, we tested the effects of leachates from new (N) and aged (A) plastic pearl-farming gear (spat collector and synthetic rope) obtained after 24 h and 120 h incubation, on the embryo-larval development of the pearl oyster using an in-vitro assay. Embryos were exposed for 24 h and 48 h to a negative control (0) and the leachate from 0.1, 1, 10 and 100 g of plastic. L-1. After 24 h exposure to leachate at 100 g.L-1, effects were observed on embryo development (-38% to -60% of formed larvae) and mortality (+72% to +82%). Chemical analyses of plastic gear indicated the presence of 26 compounds, consisting of organic contaminants (PAHs) and additives (mainly phthalates). Screening of leachates demonstrated that these compounds leach into the surrounding seawater with an additional detection of pesticides. Higher levels of phthalates were measured in leachates obtained from new (6.7-9.1 mg.L-1) than from aged (0.4-0.5 mg.L-1) plastics, which could be part of the explanation of the clear difference in toxicity observed after 48 h exposure at lower concentrations (0.1-10 g.L-1), associated with mortality ranging from 26 to 86% and 17-28%, respectively. Overall, this study suggests that plastic gear used in the pearl-farming industry releases significant amounts of hazardous chemicals over their lifetime, which may affect pearl oyster development that call for in-situ exploration.
