Microtubule targeting agents represent a very active arena in the development of anticancer agents. In particular, compounds binding at the colchicine site in tubulin are being deeply studied, and the structural information recently available on this binding site allows structure-directed design of new ligands. Structural comparison of our recently reported high resolution X-Ray structure of the cyclohexanedione derivative TUB075 bound to tubulin and the tubulin-DAMA-colchicine complex has revealed a conformational change in the alpha T5 loop. By a grid-based computational analysis of the tubulin-DAMA-colchicine binding site, we have identified a new favourable binding area in the colchicine-site that was unexplored by our lead TUB075. Thus, based on a structure-guided design, new cyclohexanedione derivatives have been synthesized and tested for tubulin binding and in cellular assays. As a result, we have identified diphenyl ether derivatives with IC50 values around 10-40 nM against three different tumor cell lines and affinity constants for tubulin similar to that of colchicine around 10(7) M-1. As expected, they halted the cell cycle progression at G2/M phase at concentrations as low as 0.08 mu M. (C) 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the catalytic behaviour of carbonaceous system (Ccs) functionalized with -SO3H groups were studied in the etherification of refined (Gly) and crude glycerol (GlyC), with benzyl alcohol (BA). This Ccs was obtained by a synthetic method with low energetic cost in only 24 h. Its catalytic activity and selectivity were studied varying the catalyst percentage (2.5, 5 and 10 wt.%), the initial reactant molar ratio and temperature (between 80 and 120 degrees C). A very good catalytic performance was achieved (97 % conversion after 360 min of reaction), at 120 degrees C, Gly:BA = 3:1 and 10 wt.% of Ccs. The high activity can be attributed to high acid site density (6.4 mmol H+/g), that also allowed us to working at lower reaction temperature (100 degrees C) and with less catalyst concentration (2.5 wt.%), without observing significant loss in BA conversion. Monoether (ME1) was the major product of the reaction with 72 % selectivity. The material can be reused and still gives a notable conversion of BA (about 43 %) after three successive reuses. Finally, the Ccs was active and selective to the desired products in the etherification of crude glycerol (GlyC) derived of biodiesel industry. An important BA conversion (45 %) was obtained only reducing the water content of GlyC and without carrying out any other purification and/or neutralization treatment.

Name: Diphenyl oxide. The Name is Diphenyl oxide. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of 101-84-8.

Background: Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are linked with insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes (T2D) in the general population. However, their associations with gestational diabetes (GDM) are inconsistent. Objective: We prospectively evaluated the associations of POPs measured in early pregnancy with GDM risk. We also assessed whether pre-pregnancy BMI (ppBMI) and family history of T2D modify this risk. Methods: In NICHD Fetal Growth Study, Singletons, we measured plasma concentration of 76 POPs, including 11 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), 9 polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs), 44 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and 11 per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) among 2334 healthy non-obese women at 8-13 weeks of gestation. GDM was diagnosed by Carpenter and Coustan criteria. We constructed chemical networks using a weighted-correlation algorithm and examined the associations of individual chemical and chemical networks with GDM using multivariate Poisson regression with robust variance. Results: Higher concentrations of PCBs with six or more chlorine atoms were associated with increased risk of GDM in the overall cohort (risk ratios [RRs] range: 1.08-1.13 per 1-standard deviation [SD] increment) and among women with a family history of T2D (RRs range: 1.08-1.48 per 1-SD increment) or normal ppBMI (RRs range: 1.08-1.22 per 1-SD increment). Similar associations were observed for the chemical network comprised of PCBs with >= 6 chlorine atoms and the summary measure of total PCBs and non-dioxin like PCBs (138, 153, 170, 180). Furthermore, four PFAS congeners-perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA), and perfluorododecanoic acid (PFDoDA)-showed significant positive associations with GDM among women with a family history of T2D (RRs range: 1.22-3.18 per 1-SD increment), whereas BDE47 and BDE153 showed significant positive associations among women without a family history of T2D. Conclusions: Environmentally relevant levels of heavily chlorinated PCBs and some PFAS and PBDEs were positively associated with GDM with suggestive effect modifications by family history of T2D and body adiposity status.

Meso- and microporous ZSM-5 zeolites were synthesized through combination of the tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) and single quaternary ammonium surfactant (Cph-ph-10-6) as dual templates. The structure-directing ability of Cph-ph-10-6 and TPA(+) was investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculation. By tuning the molar ratios of Cph-ph-10-6/TPAOH from 5/0 to 5/8, the structure-directing effects between Cph-ph-10-6 and TPA(+) could be systematically modulated, resulting in the morphology of the mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolites changed from ultrathin nanosheets, through splint like nanosheets, to condensed packing plates. In addition, the hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolites exhibited a greater catalytic activity in alkylation of mesitylene with benzyl alcohol compared with conventional ZSM-5 zeolite. The fine control of meso- and microporous structures of ZSM-5 zeolites by a simple one-step dual template synthesis approach allows the design of the desired catalysts for a green and sustainable future.

A series of 20 bis(phenolate-ether) ligands, in combination with Zr and Hf, was tested for performance in propene polymerization, focusing on molecular weight, stereoregularity and regioregularity of the resulting polymer. Ligand variation covers length of the aliphatic linker between the ligand halves, as well as steric bulk of the groups ortho to the phenolate oxygen. The linker length has a dramatic effect on MW: two-carbon linkers produce oligomers (M-n < 2.5 kDa) while three- and four-carbon linkers generate much higher MW (M-n typically 50-500 kDa). Stereoselectivity can be tuned using large, flat substituents in the o-phenolate position; tuning of regioselectivity is much harder. Hf catalysts are slower than their Zr analogs and do not work well with MAO/BHT (BHT = 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol); they are generally more selective (MW, stereo and regio). Density functional calculations agree fairly well with observed selectivities, supporting the involvement of a fac/fac coordinated active species. These O4 catalysts are considerably more flexible than e.g. metallocenes, making accurate prediction of PP microstructure a significant challenge. COA of Formula: C12H10O. Nano ferrites (AFe(2)O(4), A = Zn, Co, Mn, Cu) were supported on the surface of gamma-Al2O3 support by hydrothermal synthesis to prepare a series of novel composite catalysts (AFe(2)O(4)/gamma-Al2O3) for catalytic ozonation for elimination of high concentration toluene at ambient temperature. The characterization results showed that the high-purity nano-AFe(2)O(4) particles were uniformly loaded on mesoporous gamma-Al2O3. Further, it was confirmed that among the several catalysts prepared, the amount of oxygen vacancies (O-vs), Lewis acid sites (LAS), and BrOnsted acid sites (BAS) of the ZnFe2O4/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst were the highest. This meant that the ZnFe2O4/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst had a strong adsorption capacity for toluene and ozone (O-3), and had a strong catalytic activity. When the temperature was 293 K and the space velocity was 1500 h(-1), the mol ratio of O-3 to toluene was 6, the degradation rate of toluene (600 mg m(-3)) can reach an optimum of 99.8%. The results of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and Fourier infrared (FT-IR) proved superoxide radicals and hydroxyl radicals by catalytic ozonation. Moreover, the GC-MS analysis results indicated that the toluene degradation began with the oxidation of methyl groups on the benzene ring, eventually producing CO2 and H2O. After repeated experiments, the toluene degradation rate remained stable, and the residual content of O-3 in each litre of produced gas was less than 1 mg L-1, thereby indicating that the ZnFe2O4/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst had excellent reusability and showed great potential for the treatment of toluene waste gas.

This study aimed to establish marine water quality criteria (MWQC) for emerging chemicals of concern (ECCs) for protecting aquatic life in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) of South China. Despite the frequent occurrence and elevated concentrations of these ECCs in the GBA, there is a lack of regional MWQC for these contaminants. We screened 21 common ECCs that were classified into the following six groups: (1) new persistent organic contaminants; (2) brominated flame retardants; (3) perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances; (4) pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs); (5) plasticizers; and (6) personal care products. Globally, MWQC for PhACs remain largely unavailable despite their increasing occurrence in marine environments. Using an integrative scientific approach, we derived interim MWQC for the GBA with specific protection goals. The approach described herein can be applied for the derivation of MWQC for ECCs and the establishment of guidelines for ecological risk assessment in the GBA and other regions.

The crude electronic waste (e-waste) recycling has caused severe contamination of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in the local environment, begging the question of whether wildlife like birds living at e-waste sites are suffering from adverse effects. We examined several oxidative status markers and their relationships with hepatic concentrations of PCBs and PBDEs in common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) that inhabit an e-waste site in South China. The results showed that the mean concentrations of Sigma PCBs (19100 ng/g) and Sigma PBDEs (507 ng/g) in kingfishers from e-waste site were several orders of magnitude higher than those in the species from a reference site. Correspondingly, hepatic concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in kingfishers from the e-waste site were significantly higher than those detected in the reference population, suggesting oxidative distress in the birds breeding at the e-waste site. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in the liver from the exposed group were significantly lower compared with the reference group, while the opposite trend was observed for glutathione peroxidase (GPx). Significantly positive correlations were observed between PCB or PBDE concentrations and the levels of MDA and ROS; while negative correlations were found for enzymatic activities of SOD and CAT. Overall, our results may suggest a potential linkage between exposure to e-waste-derived pollutants and elevated oxidative stress, thereby indicating a potential oxidative stress-related health effects in common kingfisher breeding at the e-waste site.

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are commonly used as flame retardants (FRs) and plasticizers. The usage of OPEs has increased recently due to the ban of several brominated flame retardants, but information on levels in the environment, including the indoor environment is still limited. We investigated the occurrence and distribution of 12 OPEs in urban house dust from Vancouver, Canada; Istanbul, Turkey; and Cairo, Egypt. The medianSOPE concentration was 41.4 mu g/g in the Vancouver samples while median levels in Istanbul and Cairo were significantly lower. The median composition profiles of OPEs in Vancouver and Cairo were dominated by tris (2-butoxyethyl) phosphate (TBOEP), accounting for 56 and 92% of total OPEs respectively while it showed a detection frequency of only 14% in Istanbul. Tris (2-chloropropyl) phosphate (TCPP) was the most abundant chlorinated OPE representing 20 and 36% of the total OPEs in Vancouver and Istanbul respectively, but was below the detection limit in the Cairo dust samples. Consistent with other studies, SOPE concentrations were similar to 1 to 2 orders of magnitude higher than PBDEs and currently used flame retardants in the same dust samples. The mean estimated daily intakes (EDI) of SOPE from dust were 115, 38 and 9 ng/kg/bw/day in Vancouver, Cairo and Istanbul respectively for toddlers where adults were similar to 10 times lower. The total toddler OPE intake ranged from 115 to 2900, 38 to 845 and from9 to 240 ng/kg bw/day across the three cities. TBOEP had the largest contribution to the EDI in both toddler and adults, where toddler TBOEP exposures via dust represented 4% to 80%, 2% to 44% and 0.1% to 6% of the Reference Doses (RfD) in the mean and high intake scenarios for toddlers in Vancouver, Cairo and Istanbul respectively. Various aromatic nitriles could be obtained in good yields by the treatment of aryl bromides with n-butyllithium and then pivalonitrile, followed by the treatment with molecular iodine at 70 degrees C, without metal cyanides under transition-metal-free conditions. The present reaction proceeds through the radical beta-elimination of imino-nitrogen-centered radicals formed from the reactions of imines and N-iodoimines under warming conditions.
