Using thianthrene S-oxide (TTSO) as a transient mediator, para-arylation and alkenylation of mono-substituted arenes have been demonstrated via a para-selective thianthrenation/Pd-catalyzed thio-Suzuki-Miyaura coupling sequence under mild conditions. This reaction features a broad substrate scope, and functional group and heterocycle tolerance. The versatility of this approach was further demonstrated by late-stage functionalization of complex bioactive scaffolds, and direct synthesis of some pharmaceuticals, including Tetriprofen, Ibuprofen, Bifonazole, and LJ570.

In this work, we provide a detailed account of the liquid-phase exfoliation (LPE) of rhenium disulfide (ReS2), a promising new-generation two-dimensional material. By screening LPE in a wide range of solvents, we show that the most optimal solvents are characterized by similar Hildebrand or dispersive Hansen solubility parameters of 25 and 18 MPa1/2, respectively. Such values are attained by solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, N,N-dimethylformamide, and 1-butanol. In line with solution thermodynamics, we interpret the conditions for high-yield exfoliation as a matching of the solvent and ReS2 solubility parameters. Using N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone as an exemplary exfoliation solvent, we undertook a detailed analysis of the exfoliated ReS2. In-depth morphological, structural, and elemental characterization outlined that the LPE procedure presented here produces few-layer, anisotropically stacked, and chemically pure ReS2 platelets with long-term stability against oxidation. These results underscore the suitability of LPE to batch-produce few-layer and pristine ReS2 in solvents that have a solubility parameter close to 25 MPa1/2.

A highly efficient Ni/N-C catalyst was synthesized by facile pyrolysis of a Ni-containing metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF), and its catalytic hydrogenolysis performance towards C-O bonds in lignin was evaluated in detail using diphenyl ether (DPE) as a model compound. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses show that the flower-like nanosheets of the Ni-MOF shrink, forming a loose and ordered spherical structure during pyrolysis. Under the optimal conditions, DPE was completely converted and the selectivity to monomers (benzene, cyclohexanol and cyclohexane) reached 99.1%. During the catalytic hydrogenolysis conversion (CHC) of DPE, the direct cleavage of the C-aromatic-O bond affording benzene and phenol is the major reaction pathway, and a low H2 pressure is crucial to increase the monomer selectivity. Furthermore, Ni/N-C-450 shows high hydrogenolysis activity for other lignin-derived aryl ethers, such as benzyl phenyl ether, dibenzyl ether, dinaphthalene ether, benzyl 2-naphthyl ether and 3-methoxyphenol.

Name: Benzyl ether. The Name is Benzyl ether. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of 103-50-4.

The stability of a and beta nanoporous-crystalline (NC) forms of Poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene) oxide (PPO), in the presence of guest molecules leading to crystallization in a and beta-form (alpha and beta-guests), is explored. Sorption of liquid guests at 30 degrees C and 60 degrees C is studied both for NC films and NC aerogels. WAXD and FTIR characterizations show that, for all considered conditions, NC alpha-phases after guest sorption/desorption remain unaltered. NC beta-phases, on the contrary, after alpha-guest sorption can be transformed in co-crystalline (CC) alpha-phases that after guest desorption are transformed in NC alpha-phases. All conducted experiments also show that possible planar orientations of NC films (c//or c perpendicular to orientations) remain essentially unaltered, after sorption of all considered guest molecules. The presently discovered beta ->alpha transition constitutes a route to obtain unoriented alpha-form films, which till now were not available by known preparation procedures.

An original multiresidue method based on thermal extraction (TE) and gas chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (GC/MS/MS) was developed to simultaneously quantify, from a very small amount of sample (a few milligrams), a wide range of concerning SVOCs, including polycyclic musks, organochlorines (OCs), organophosphates (OPs), oxadiazolones, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polybromodiphenylethers (PBDEs), polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs), phthalates and pyrethroids, in indoor settled dust. Method limits of quantification (LOQs) ranged from 5 ng g(-1) for PCBs, oxadiazon, 4,4′-DDE and 4,4′-DDT to 2000 ng g-1 for DEHP for a 2 mg sample of sieved dust. The proposed method was successfully validated in terms of accuracy and precision via replicate analysis of four different standard reference materials (SRMs 1649b (Urban Dust), 2585 (Organic Contaminants in House Dust), 2786 and 2787 (Fine Atmospheric Particulate Matter)) supplied by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and was applied to five real indoor settled dust samples collected in French schools. In addition, its performance was compared to that of a previously published method based on pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) and GC/MS/MS. The different results obtained demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method over conventional methods and illustrate its two main features: i) its ease of use and very rapid implementation in only three steps (sieving, weighing and analysis), which make it particularly appropriate for environmental monitoring programs and large-scale studies, and ii) its ability to precisely and accurately quantify a wide range of SVOCs from trace (a few ng g(-1)) to highly concentrated (several mg g-1) compounds from only 2 mg of sieved dust. The mild depolymerization of lignin into aromatic monomer is a grand challenge owing to the various aryl ether C-O bonds, particularly for the most abundant beta-O-4, alpha-O-4 and 4-O-5 linkages. Rod-shaped CeO2 supported AuPd bimetallic catalysts fabricated by sol-immobilization method presented robust alloy structure, as evidenced by TEM, XPS, UV-vis, and CO-DRIFTS. For the hydrogenolysis of C-O bond model compound with formic acid, Au1Pd1/CeO2 showed about 23.5 and 6 folds increase in activity compared with its monometallic counterparts Au/CeO2 and Pd/CeO2, respectively. The outstanding performance was mainly ascribed to the increased adsorption ability of electron-deficient Pd for aromatic C-O bond. Additionally, formic acid-mediated Au1Pd1/CeO2 has efficiently performed hydrogenolysis of real lignin into a variety of valuable monophenols, achieving 44.1% yield at low temperature.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), hexabromobiphenyl (BB-153), novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs), and unsubstituted/methylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs/Me-PAHs) were simultaneously monitored in the air samples collected from Vietnamese urban and vehicular waste processing areas by using polyurethane foam-based passive air sampling (PUF-PAS) method. Concentrations (pg m(-3)) of organic pollutants decreased in the order: PAHs (median 29,000; range 5100-100,000) > Me-PAHs (6000; 1000-33,000) > PCBs (480; 170 -1100) > PBDEs (11; 5.3-86) > NBFRs (0.20; n. d. – 51) > BB-153 (n.d.). The difference in total PCB and PBDE concentrations between the urban and waste processing air samples was not statistically significant. Meanwhile, levels of PAHs, Me-PAHs, benzo [a]pyrene equivalents (BaP-EQs), and toxic equivalents of dioxin-like PCBs (WHO-TEQs) were much higher in the waste processing sites. This is the first report on the abundance of mono- and di-CBs (notably CB-11) in the air from a developing country, suggesting their roles as emerging and ubiquitous air pollutants. Our results have indicated potential sources of specific organic pollutants such as dioxin-like PCBs, PAHs, and Me-PAHs from improper treatment of end-of-life vehicles and other vehicle related materials (e.g., waste oils and rubber tires), as well as current emission of PCBs and PBDEs in the urban area in Vietnam. Further atmospheric monitoring studies should be conducted in this developing country that cover both legacy and emerging contaminants with a focus on areas affected by rapid urbanization and informal waste processing activities. Species of herbaceous flowering perennial plant of the family Campanulaceae such as Platycodon grandiflorum (P. grandiflorum) and Codonopsis lanceolata (C. lanceolata) widely used in traditional medicine to treat different diseases. In spite of different medicinal results after consumption of the plants, it is hard to distinguish between two of them, because of their similar morphological characteristics. In this study, a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) – based metabolite profiling approach was performed and examined to discriminate tuberous roots of P. grandiflorum and C. lanceolate for medicinal purposes. Two basic approaches for sample preparation, headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) and solvent extraction were adopted. Multivariate statistical techniques, such as orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) plots showed significant differences between P. grandiflorum and C. lanceolata for polar primary and volatile organic metabolites. A number of potential candidates were suggested as the chemomarkers for discrimination of two plants.

Nowadays, environmental pollution by microplastics (<5 mm; MP) is a major issue. MP are contaminating marine organisms consumed by humans. This work studied MP contamination in two bivalve species of commercial interest: blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) and common cockle (Cerastoderma edule) sampled on the Channel coastlines (France). In parallel, 13 plastic additives and 27 hydrophobic organic compounds (HOC) were quantified in bivalves flesh using SBSE-TD-GS-MS/MS to explore a possible relationship between their concentrations and MP contamination levels. MP were extracted using a 10% potassium hydroxide digestion method then identified by mu-Raman spectroscopy. The proportion of contaminated bivalves by MP ranged from 34 to 58%. Blue mussels and common cockles exhibited 0.76 +/- 0.40 and 2.46 +/- 1.16 MP/individual and between 0.15 +/- 0.06 and 0.74 +/- 035 MP/g of tissue wet weight. Some HOC and plastic additives were detected in bivalves. However, no significant Pearson or Spearman correlation was found between MP loads and plastic additives or HOC concentrations in bivalve tissues for the two species. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
