In the temperature range of 703-763 K, the thermal stability of 4-tert-butyl diphenyl oxide (4-TBDPO) has been studied, the components of the thermolysis reaction mass have been identified, a kinetic model of the process has been proposed, and the rate constants and parameters of the Arrhenius equation for all reactions under consideration have been calculated. The predominant role of isomerization transformations of 4-TBDPO has been found. A mechanism for the radical isomerization of the tert-butyl substituent has been proposed.

RuFe/CeO2 catalysts were studied in the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of diphenyl ether (DPE). We find that the hydrogenation reactivity is favored over 2Ru/CeO2, leading to the formation of dicyclohexyl ether and cyclohexyl phenyl ether as main products. Addition of oxophilic Fe inhibits the hydrogenation of aromatic rings but enhances the hydrogenolysis of C-O bonds to produce benzene and phenol as well as cyclohexane and cyclohexanol formed from subsequent hydrogenation of phenol. similar to 92 % selectivity to C-O bond ruptured products were achieved with similar to 21 % yield toward aromatics (benzene and phenol) on 0.5Ru1.5Fe/CeO2 catalyst. Characterization using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature programmed reduction (TPR) reveals that the adsorption of aromatic ring is weakened on the RuFe alloy surface compared to Ru which leads to reduced hydrogenation of arenes, while oxophilic nature of Fe facilitates the adsorption of the aryl-ether bond that enhances the hydrogenolysis of C-O bonds in DPE.

Two new compounds, named penisclerotiorin A (1) and diaporthein C (8), and a new natural product, penidepsidone A (4), together with five known compounds (2, 3, 5-7) were isolated from the fungus Penicillium sclerotiorum GZU-XW03-2. Their structures were assigned using spectroscopic methods, quantum chemical calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Penisclerotiorin A (1) that belongs to the highly oxidized diphenyl ether is rare found in natural sources, and it was the sixth example of highly oxidized diphenyl ether analogues in natural sources. Penidepsidone A (4) is a new natural product and no any NMR spectral data were reported to date, in this paper, we firstly used the NMR calculations to confirm the intact structure by comparison of the experimental NMR data. Diaporthein C (8) represents the third example of pimarane diterpenes bearing a double bond at C-8 and C-9. In the bioassays, all of the isolates (1-8) were tested for their anti-inflammatory effects on the production of nitric oxide in lipopolysaccharide-induced microglial cells (RAW 264.7 cells). Compounds 2, 3 and 6 showed potent anti-inflammatory effects than the positive control (indomethacin, IC50, 24.0 mu M) with IC50 values of 11.52, 8.13 and 21.27 mu M, respectively.

The mild depolymerization of lignin into aromatic monomer is a grand challenge owing to the various aryl ether C-O bonds, particularly for the most abundant beta-O-4, alpha-O-4 and 4-O-5 linkages. Rod-shaped CeO2 supported AuPd bimetallic catalysts fabricated by sol-immobilization method presented robust alloy structure, as evidenced by TEM, XPS, UV-vis, and CO-DRIFTS. For the hydrogenolysis of C-O bond model compound with formic acid, Au1Pd1/CeO2 showed about 23.5 and 6 folds increase in activity compared with its monometallic counterparts Au/CeO2 and Pd/CeO2, respectively. The outstanding performance was mainly ascribed to the increased adsorption ability of electron-deficient Pd for aromatic C-O bond. Additionally, formic acid-mediated Au1Pd1/CeO2 has efficiently performed hydrogenolysis of real lignin into a variety of valuable monophenols, achieving 44.1% yield at low temperature.

An efficient and simple approach for the direct synthesis of aryl and heteroaryl sulfonic esters was developed using DMS and DES as alkoxysulfonylation reagents. The reaction is operationally simple and scalable. This protocol does not require solvent, expensive catalysts, base, ligand additives or other reagents. A wide range of sulfonic esters were synthesized in moderate to good chemical yields. This method has the advantage of low cost, facile and tolerated a wide range of substrates.

A class of aryne precursors, that is, 2-(trimethylsilyl)aryl 4-chlorobenzenesulfonates, has been developed through well-established synthetic routes, which allow the formation of arynes under relatively mild conditions. All the aryne precursors were obtained from phenols and 4-chlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride, an inexpensive and easy-to-handle reagent with relatively low toxicity, and subjected to nucleophilic addition reactions, providing addition products in yields of 24 to 92%, and to cycloaddition reactions, affording cycloadducts in yields up to 80%. This work provides interesting insights into the mechanisms of aryne generation. In addition, 2-(trimethylsilyl)phenyl 4-chlorobenzenesulfonate was successfully employed in the total synthesis of (+/-)-aporphine.

The phthalocyanine is conjugated to cysteamine capped silver nanoparticles (Cys-Ag NPs), amine functionalised iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (NH2-Fe3O4 NPs) and a core-shell composite of the two (Cys-Fe3O4@Ag) via amide bonds. The photo-physico-chemical properties of complex 4 and its respective nanoconjugates (4-Ag, 4-Fe3O4 NPs and 4-Fe3O4@Ag NPs) are also reported. The nanoconjugates showed improved triplet and singlet oxygen quantum yields compared to complex 4. The antibacterial activity of complex 4 and its nanoconjugates were also evaluated on S. aureus wherein their activity was found to be mainly visible light driven with the best catalyst being 4-Fe3O4@Ag. The work therefore demonstrates the feasibility of phthalocyanine-nanoparticle based compounds as potential agents in real life antibacterial treatment.

We report the synthesis, characterization, and spectroscopic investigations of a new responsive-at-metal cyclometalated platinum(II) complex. With mild chemical oxidants and reductants, it was possible to obtain the same complex in three different oxidation states and each of these complexes was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. We discovered that the platinum(II) complex displays strong solvatochromism in the solid state, which can be attributed to modulation of Pt…Pt interactions that results in switching between optical and photoluminescent states. Incorporating responsive-at-metal species as dynamic components in nanostructured materials might facilitate response amplification, sensing, actuation, or self-healing processes.
