Jindou kumquat (Fortunella hindsii var. chintou Swingle) with very small fruits belongs to genus Fortunella. However, there is a lack of relevant research on the characteristic secondary metabolites in Jindou compared with other Fortunella fruits. Here, non-targeted and targeted metabolomics based on UPLC-Q-TOF-MS and UPLC-QqQ-MS/MS was performed to profile and quantitate the phytochems. of 16 varieties including five species in the genus Fortunella. Results showed the types and contents of phytochems. in different varieties were quite distinct from each other. Twenty four of the screened metabolites in Jindou different from the other varieties were undoubtedly or tentatively identified. Targeted quant. anal. verified that coumarins and furanocoumarins could be considered to be the dominant characteristic metabolites in Jindou among other Fortunella fruits including auraptene, bergapten, imperatorin, xanthotoxin and umbelliferone. This study makes relatively comprehensive research into the secondary metabolites of Jindou and provides data as a basis for further evaluation and utilization of Fortunella germplasms.

Zhou, Na;Pan, Fei;Ai, Xin;Tuersuntuoheti, Tuohetisayipu;Zhao, Lei;Zhao, Liang;Wang, Yong research published 《 Preparation, characterization and antioxidant activity of sinapic acid grafted chitosan and its application with casein as a nanoscale delivery system for black rice anthocyanins》, the research content is summarized as follows. Anthocyanins (ACNs) have attracted considerable research attention because of their excellent health benefits, but their low stability and bioavailability limit their applications. In this study, sinapic acid-grafted-chitosan (SA-g-CS) conjugate was synthesized by grafting SA onto CS via a free radical mediated method. Nanoparticles were prepared using casein (CA) together with SA-g-CS to improve the performance and sustained release of black rice anthocyanins (BRA). The results of UV-Vis, FTIR and 1H NMR spectra for SA-g-CS conjugates demonstrated the successful grafting of SA onto CS. The results of DPPH, ABTS and ferric ion reducing antioxidant power assays showed that the SA-g-CS conjugates had strong antioxidant capacities, and the higher the pH of the grafting reaction system, the stronger the antioxidant capacity of the conjugates. X-ray diffraction and SEM analyses showed that the crystallog. property and microstructure of CS were improved by the grafting of SA. Compared with BRA loaded nanoparticles prepared with CA alone or the combination of CS and CA, the BRA loaded nanoparticles constructed by SA-g-CS and CA have smaller particle size, better dispersion, encapsulation efficiency and sustained-release property. These results provided great potential for the application of phenolic acid grafted CS in stabilizing ACNs.

Zannou, Oscar;Pashazadeh, Hojjat;Ibrahim, Salam A.;Koca, Ilkay;Galanakis, Charis M. research published 《 Green and highly extraction of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity from kinkeliba (Combretum micranthum G. Don) by natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) using maceration, ultrasound-assisted extraction and homogenate-assisted extraction》, the research content is summarized as follows. Kinkeliba (C. micranthum) is a tropical plant widely used for its tremendous phytochems. and biol. activities. In the present study, three green carboxylic acid-based natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) were used to assess the extraction of phenolic compounds in terms of total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), individual phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity (DPPH and FRAP assays) from dried C. micranthum leaves. For the synthesis of NADESs choline chloride was used as hydrogen bond acceptors (HBA) in combination with lactic acid (ChLa), acetic acid (ChAa) and tartaric acid (ChTa) as hydrogen bond donors (HBDs). The conventional solvents including distilled water, pure methanol and pure ethanol were used for comparison. Three extraction methods including maceration extraction (ME), homogenate-assisted extraction (HAE) and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) were tested to determine the best extraction conditions. The solvents combined with the extraction methods were successfully applied for the recovery of phenolic compounds from C. micranthum leaves. ChLa exhibited the highest performance giving the TPC (21.12 ± 0.13-23.62 ± 0.58 mg GAE/g), followed by ChAc (15.49 ± 0.13-18.85 ± 0.39 mg GAE/g), water (17.08 ± 0.32-18.13 ± 0.13 mg GAE/g), ChTa (14.49 ± 0.26-17.44 ± 0.19 mg GAE/g), methanol (7.46 ± 0.45-11.64 ± 0.32 mg GAE/g) and ethanol (2.88 ± 0.39-4.60 ± 0.39 mg GAE/g), resp. For TFC, ChLa (4.38 ± 0.09-5.01 ± 0.09 mg ECE/g) was the most prominent solvent, followed by ChAc (2.84 ± 0.04-5.01 ± 0.36 mg ECE/g), methanol (1.93 ± 053-4.85 ± 0.04 mg ECE/g), ethanol (1.49 ± 0.36-4.16 ± 0.04 mg ECE/g), ChTa (1.09 ± 0.04-3.22 ± 0.13 mg ECE/g) and water (1.15 ± 0.04-1.37 ± 0.44 mg ECE/g), resp. The acidic NADESs especially ChLa and ChAa exhibited the best efficiencies compared to the conventional solvents. Furthermore, UAE and HAE provided good extraction efficiency in a short extraction time (30 min) in terms of the TPC, TFC, individual phenolic compounds and the antioxidant capacity compared to ME which gave a similar yield with 12 h of extraction time. Principal component anal. (PCA) showed that C. micranthum extracts could clearly be discriminated in terms of phytochem. compounds and antioxidant capacity and UAE, HAE or ME combined with ChLa ChAc or ChTa were the best choices to higher extraction efficiency.

Hydroxycinnamic acids and Et acetate were assessed in simulated alc.-free wine solutions to explore the effect of phenolic acids on the aroma volatility of esters. The results showed that the phenolic acids could inhibit the volatilization of Et acetate, and the extent of inhibition was influenced by the concentration and structure of the phenolic compounds The UV absorption spectra of the phenolic acids and Et acetate confirmed the interaction between the two compounds The thermodn. parameters of the interaction implied a spontaneous exothermic interaction, driven primarily by hydrophobic effects. Meanwhile, the results of the fluorescence-quenching anal. indicated electron transfer between the reactants. The quantum chem. investigations revealed neg. and pos. charge d. distributions in the structures of Et acetate and the phenolic acids, resp. These results will provide some data reference and theor. support for further research on the effects of phenolic acid matrix on other structural esters.

This study aims to explore the anxiolytic effects of DISS and further reveal the material basis by establishing the pharmacokinetics of DISS and its metabolites. Behavioral experiments such as the open field test (OFT) and elevated plus maze test (EPM) were performed to evaluate the anxiolytic effects of DISS in mice after oral administration. By UPLC-MS/MS anal., DISS and its metabolites both in blood and cerebrospinal fluid were identified, and the pharmacokinetics of DISS and its metabolites were characterized in SD rats after oral administration of DISS (100 mg·kg-1). Oral DISS could increase the time and frequency of mice entering the central area of the field in OFT and open arm in EPM, which indicated DISS has good anxiolytic effects. We also identified DISS and its metabolites (sinapic acid (SA), 3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamic acid (TMCA), methyl-3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamate (TMCA-CH2), p-Coumaric acid (CA) and p-methoxycinnamic acid (MA)) in rat plasma and cerebrospinal fluid. The pharmacokinetic results showed that DISS was rapidly absorbed after administration and reached its highest concentration at 12 min, SA had the highest exposure level in vivo and was probably the main active form of DISS action, TMCA could maintain at a low concentration for a long time. In brief, we reported the anxiolytic effect of DISS firstly, revealed the cerebrospinal fluid distribution and pharmacokinetics of DISS and its metabolites. Our findings provide the basis for further insight into the mechanisms involved in the anxiolytic effects of DISS.

Zhang, Xin;Zheng, Yuanrong;Zhou, Ran;Ma, Ming research published 《 Comprehensive identification of molecular profiles related to sensory and nutritional changes in Mongolian cheese during storage by untargeted metabolomics coupled with quantification of free amino acids》, the research content is summarized as follows. Non-targeted metabolomics was used to study metabolites with low mol. weight which may contribute to quality deterioration of Mongolian cheese during storage. Microbiol. anal., pH, FAAs (free amino acids), volatile compounds, and sensory evaluation of the cheese during storage were also studied. A total of 278 metabolites were identified in Mongolian cheese, of which 51 metabolites were used as differential metabolites, including amino acids, peptides, organic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates. Bitter amino acids, bitter peptide (Phe-Ile), and organic acids (sinapic acid, butyric acid) increased during storage. Metabolic pathway anal. showed that differential metabolites were mainly related to amino acid metabolism, such as β-alanine metabolism and glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism Moreover, accompanied with the increased contents of short-chain fatty acids, 2-undecanone and Et esters, strength of odor and unpleasant smell increased but overall acceptability decreased during Mongolian cheese storage. This research provides suitable strategies for quality control of Mongolian cheese during shelf life.

Silicon can enhance plant resistance to biotic stress by directly inhibiting pathogens, forming phys. barriers, and inducing the synthesis of defense compounds However, no study is available on silicon on fruit wound healing. Here, we found that sodium silicate enhanced the activities of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, 4-coumarate CoA ligase, and cinnamate-4-hydroxylase, and elevated levels of cinnamic, ρ-coumaric, caffeic, ferulic, sinapic acids, and total phenols at fruit wounds. Sodium silicate accelerated the deposition of suberin poly phenolic and silicon at wounds, increased the hardness and brittleness and reduced their resilience of the healing tissues, which slowed weight loss by wounded fruit, and disease index in fruit subjected to Trichothecium roseum. Taken together, sodium silicate may promote wound healing in muskmelons by activating phenylpropanoid pathway, accelerating suberin poly phenolic and silicon deposition at wounds, and increasing the hardness and brittleness of healing tissues.

Sinapic acid is an hydroxycinnamic acid derivative that occurs naturally in Brassicaceae species.
cis-Sinapic acid, also known as cis-sinapate or synapitic acid, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hydroxycinnamic acids. Hydroxycinnamic acids are compounds containing an cinnamic acid where the benzene ring is hydroxylated. cis-Sinapic acid is considered to be a practically insoluble (in water) and relatively neutral molecule. Within the cell, cis-sinapic acid is primarily located in the cytoplasm. Outside of the human body, cis-sinapic acid can be found in common pea and pulses. This makes cis-sinapic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.

Ethers lack the hydroxyl groups of alcohols. Without the strongly polarized O―H bond, ether molecules cannot engage in hydrogen bonding with each other. 530-59-6, formula is C11H12O5, Name is 3,5-Dimethoxy-4-hydroxycinnamic acid. Ethers do have nonbonding electron pairs on their oxygen atoms, however, and they can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules (alcohols, amines, etc.) that have O―H or N―H bonds. Yan, Lei;Li, Shuang;Cheng, Jin;Zhang, Yaru;Jiang, Cuncang research published 《 Boron-mediated lignin metabolism in response to aluminum toxicity in citrus (Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.) root》, the research content is summarized as follows. Aluminum (Al) toxicity has conspicuous detrimental effects on citrus production whereas boron (B) has been shown to alleviate its toxicity. Lignin plays a critical role in the cell wall extensibility and root elongation under stressed conditions. Hence, the interaction between B and Al on cell wall structure and lignin-related metabolic pathway was investigated in root of trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.) seedlings. The results showed B supply considerably decreased the Al content in root, particularly in cell wall, and reduced Al-induced damage on growth-related parameters and thickness of cell wall. Boron application decreased the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malondialdehyde (MDA), and lignin contents in the Al-treated root, which prevents the inhibitory effects of Al on the root length. Moreover, metabonomics results showed that B addition resulted in the reduction of metabolites involved in the lignin biosynthesis pathways (phenylpropanoid metabolic) i.e., shikimic acid, tyrosine, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, coniferyl alc., sinapinic acid, sinapaldehyde, and sinapyl alc., as well as distinctively restrain the activities of lignin biosynthesis-related enzymes (4-coumarate-CoA ligase (4CL), cinnamyl-alc. dehydrogenase (CAD)) under Al toxicity. Collectively, our findings suggest that the pos. effects of B on the resistance of Al toxicity may be it reduces Al accumulation in the cell wall, lignin biosynthesis, and cell wall thickness, thereby increasing the extensibility and elasticity of cell wall and thus promoting root elongation.
