Rosa roxburghii Tratt (Chestnut rose) is native to China where it is cultivated for its strongly aromatic hips (pseudo fruits); locally known as cili. Increasing interest in cili for food and beverage products prompted an evaluation of its aroma compounds and the influence of geog. source. Accordingly, the volatile compounds in cili from five locations in Guizhou province were analyzed by headspace-solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry. Sixty-seven volatile compounds were identified. Principal component anal. distinguished three sample groups by geog. source. The aroma of cili juice from each location was characterized by quant. descriptive anal. using six odor descriptors. Cili aroma was predominantly sweet/fruity, floral and green, but geog. source significantly influenced the intensity of the sweet/fruity and floral notes. Odor activity analyses indicated that 40 volatile compounds contribute appreciably to the aroma of cili. Of those compounds, only ten esters, two aldehydes, one alc. and one aromatic compound were common to all regional samples. Those findings extend the range of volatiles detected in cili. These results identify those that are present in odor active amounts and provide the first evidence of the impact of geog. source on the aroma and flavor of cili.

Cao, Maoyu published the artcileSeasonal variations and potential sources of biomass burning tracers in particulate matter in Nanjing aerosols during 2017-2018, Quality Control of 134-96-3, the publication is Chemosphere (2022), 303(Part_2), 135015, database is CAplus and MEDLINE.

Biomass burning (BB) is an important source of atm. particulate matter and can adversely affect air quality, visibility, human health, and climate change. To study the characteristics and potential source regions of BB tracers in PM2.5, a liquid chromatog.-mass spectrometry instrument (HPLC-MS/MS) is applied in this study to develop and validate a method to determine organic tracers of BB in 397 aerosol samples. The total mean concentrations of 17 tracers measured in 2017 and 2018 were 333.32 ng m-3 and 243.45 ng m-3, resp. Among them, the concentration of levoglucosan was the highest among all the tracers, with 325.63 ng m-3 in 2017 and 237.47 ng m-3 in 2018. The BB tracers showed obvious seasonal variations characteristics, most of which were abundant in winter. However, the concentrations of 3,4-dimethoxyacetic acid and sinapinic acid were higher in summer and spring than that in the other seasons. There were obvious differences in the Potential Source Contribution Factor (PSCF) model results of the BB’s potential source area annually and in different seasons. The results of the potential source anal. showed that Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei had a great impact on the Nanjing air quality in 2017. Finally, five source factors for BB were identified based on the Pos. Matrix Factor (PMF) model, and these were cellulose, hardwood, softwood, grass, and secondary formed. During the 2 years, cellulose was the largest contributor to biomass burning. Owing to the different fire conditions each year, the contribution of the five factors to the BB tracers was also different. For example, the contribution of softwood to the BB tracers was greater in 2018 (8.4%) than in 2017 (5.2%), while the contributions of hardwood and cellulose did not change significantly.

Conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) have been showcased with a brilliant prospect in organic semiconductor photocatalysis, attributing to accessible mol. design, chem. stability and environmental friendliness. Here, two novel fluorene-based CMPs were designed and conveniently synthesized with carbazole as an electron donor. Importantly, subtle variation of substituent at the methylene bridge (9-position) of fluorene precursor results in different performances in which di-Me substituent was proven to be more efficient than difluoro substituent for blue light photocatalysis. MFC [9,9′-(9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluorene-2,7-diyl)bis(9H-carbazole)]-CMP has a much larger sp. surface area, a more favorable redox position, and resultantly a superior photocatalytic performance during blue light-driven selective oxidation of amines into imines with oxygen (O2) in an environmentally benign solvent ethanol (C2H5OH). This work suggests that subtle tweaking in electron acceptors could give rise to superior photocatalytic activity for CMPs in selective chem. conversions.

The development of a facile synthesis and controllable layer stacking approach for covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is an important issue for modulating their properties and realizing their application diversity. Herein, three COF isomers with different stacking models (eclipsed AA, staggered AB, and ABC stacking) were obtained by modulating the reaction temperature and solvent medium. Exptl. and theor. calculations show that the ABC stacking isomer obtained at room temperature is the kinetic product, while the AA stacking isomer prepared by the solvothermal method is a thermodn. product. Owing to the tautomerism involved in the reaction process, these isomers possess different ratios of enol and keto forms. Thus, they exhibit different generation efficiencies of Type I and Type II reactive oxygen species (ROS). The ABC stacking isomers could be employed as metal-free heterogeneous photocatalysts for visible-light-induced oxidation of amines to imines, owing to the highest generation efficiency of Type I ROS.

Visible light photocatalysis could offer an eco-friendly alternative for selective transformation of organic mols. Herein, a cooperative system is created with alizarin red S (ARS), TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs), and an extra redox mediator. The electron transfer between oxidatively quenched ARS-TNTs and the redox mediator is the key to secure cooperative photocatalysis. The selective aerobic oxidation of primary and secondary amines was constructed by cooperative photocatalysis of ARS-TNTs with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxoammonium tetrafluoroborate (TEMPO+BF4) driven by green light. Specifically, the activity of anatase TNTs could reach about 2.2 times that of the P25 (Aeroxide P25) TiO2 precursor. Due to increased polarity, TEMPO+BF4 serves more efficiently for electron transfer than (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxy (TEMPO), conferring above 1.5 times of activity that of TEMPO for the selective aerobic conversion of amines. This work features the potential of designing redox mediators in amplifying cooperative photocatalysis driven by visible light.

The synergistic catalysis effect of NaOH and H2O2 on the hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of poplar was investigated and compared to the NaOH or H2O2 catalyzed HTL at different temperatures and 30 min residence time. GC-MS, GPC, FT-IR, HPLC and TGA were used to comprehensively characterize the phys. and chem. properties of liquefied products (bio-oil, lignin and solid residue). The results showed that the highest total bio-oil yield (70.65%) was obtained at 280°C with NaOH (35 g/L)/H2O2 (30 g/L) as catalysts. The average mol. weight and polydispersity index (PDI) were found to be lower compared to that from other conditions. As the NaOH concentration was increased, the bio-oil yield was improved. The concentration of H2O2 for the optimal synergistic effect was observed to be 30 g/L. GC-MS anal. showed that the bio-oil obtained by NaOH (35 g/L)/H2O2 (30 g/L) was characterized with the lowest N content. The synergistic effect promoted the higher production selectivity of o-xylene and p-xylene in the bio-oil.

Herein, TEMPO (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine nitroxide) and its derivatives are disclosed as active catalysts for electrophilic halogenation of olefins e.., prop-1-en-1-ylbenzene, alkynes R1CCR2 (R1 = octyl, Ph; R2 = H, Me, n-Bu, Ph), and aromatics R3H (R3 = 3-(carboxymethyl)-4-methoxybenzen-1-yl, 2-[ethoxy(oxo)methane]-1H-indol-3-yl, 5-phenylthiophen-2-yl, etc.). This catalytic system is applicable to various halogenations including haloarylation of olefins or dibromination of alkynes, which were rarely realized in previous Lewis base catalysis or Lewis acid catalysis. The high catalytic ability is attributed to a synergistic activation model of electrophilic halogenating reagents, where the carbonyl group and the halogen atom are both activated by present TEMPO catalysis.

Herein, N-doped carbon embedded Ni catalysts were prepared by a co-impregnation method followed by pyrolysis in a N2 atmosphere for transfer hydrogenolysis of lignin β-O-4 alc. and ketone model compounds using isopropanol as the hydrogen source. It was found that pyrolysis at 800°C resulted in the formation of graphitic N-doped carbon shell encapsulated Ni nanoparticles (Ni@NC-800). The obtained Ni@NC-800 exhibited higher activity and selectivity to aromatics in the conversion of 2-phenoxy-1-phenylthanol and 2-phenoxyacetophenone, compared with Ni@NC-600 and Ni/NC-800. Moreover, the selectivity to aromatics could be further improved over Ni@NC-800-H, which is Ni@NC-800 after strong acid leaching. However, the presence of Cα-OH in lignin β-O-4 model compounds was essential for their product distributions. The control and characterization experiments suggested that the catalytic reaction occurred on the surface of N-doped carbon shells, because the encapsulated Ni NPs could donate electrons to the outer shells, leading to surface electron enrichment, thus making inert shells the new active sites in Ni@NC-800-H. In addition, Ni@NC-800-H was efficient for the conversion of various lignin β-O-4 alc. and ketone model compounds with methoxyl groups with high yields of the aromatic products and also possessed high stability during consecutive reaction runs, which is because Ni nanoparticles are phys. isolated from the reactive environment.

Glycopeptides related to β-endorphin penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB) of mice to produce antinociception. Two series of glycopeptides were assessed for opioid receptor binding affinity. Attempts to alter the mu-selectivity of [D-Ala2,N-MePhe4,Gly-ol5]enkephalin (DAMGO)-related glycopeptides by altering the charged residues of the amphipathic helical address were unsuccessful. A series of pan-agonists was evaluated for antinociceptive activity (55 °C tail flick) in mice. A flexible linker was required to maintain antinociceptive activity. CD in H2O, trifluoroethanol (TFE), and SDS micelles confirmed the importance of the amphipathic helixes (11s â†?11sG â†?11) for antinociception. The glycosylated analogs showed only nascent helixes and random coil conformations in H2O. Chem. shift indexes (CSI) and nuclear Overhauser effects (NOE) with 600 MHz NMR and CD confirmed helical structures in micelles, which were rationalized by mol. dynamics calculations Antinociceptive studies with mice confirm that these glycosylated endorphin analogs are potential drug candidates that penetrate the BBB to produce potent central effects.
