The residue was purified by flash column chromatography.

The combined organic layers were washed with brine (3*250 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield methyl 3-((2-methoxyethyl)amino)-4-nitrobenzoate (60.2 g , 94%) as a yellow solid. 1H NMR (CDCl3) 6 8.23 (d, 1H), 8.17 (br s, 1H), 7.58 (d, 1H), 7.25(dd, 1H), 3.95 (s, 3H), 3.69-3.73 (m, 2H), 3.56 (m, 2H), 3.45 (s, 3H); LC-MS(ES+): 255.4 (M+H).

The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight, diluted with HCl (1M) aqueous solution, and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×25mL). The combined organic phase was washed with saturated NaHCO3 aqueous solution and brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and concentrated under vacuum. Purification by flash chromatography (Silica gel, petroleum ether: ethyl acetate=50: 1 as eluent) gave the corresponding 2-phenyl-N-[2-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl]acetamide compound.

The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (DCM/acetone 100/0 to 60/40) to provide intermediate (10c) (10.08 g, 26.57 mmol, 93%).
