The use of bio-derived ionic liquids (e.g., cholinium lysinate) in a one-pot process was evaluated on overall sugar and lignin yields as a function of two model woody and herbaceous feedstocks, switchgrass and poplar, with emphasis on the study of phys. and chem. alterations in lignin structure, by performing a detailed mass balance anal. and chem. characterization. Multiple chromatog. and spectroscopic anal. techniques were applied tracking lignin reactivity and partitioning during the ionic liquid one-pot conversion. Depolymerization efficiency of the lignin-rich residue derived from the whole process was investigated as a function of different temperatures and pressures during catalytic hydrogenolysis by Ni(SO)4. This study validates the potential of ionic liquid one pot process as an integrated approach for full exploitation of lignocellulosic feedstocks. The insights gained will contribute to the design of future conversion routes for efficient biomass deconstruction and lignin valorization. Natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) have recently come to the fore as new green solvents for foods, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals due to their unique solvation power and low toxicity. Turmeric extracts were prepared using the microwave assisted extraction method (MAE) using five NADES containing binary combinations of choline chloride, lactic acid, fructose, and sucrose. The MAE method was optimized and modeled by using response surface methodol. to obtain maximum total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and curcumin contents (CC) in extracts for each NADES. All NADES extracts, except NADES-1 containing fructose and cholin chloride, exhibited higher TAC and CC than those in 80% methanol:water which was the preferred solvent in literature. NADES solvents did not interfere with subsequent antioxidant capacity measurements using the CUPRAC method. The proposed MAE is a potentially efficient and sustainable procedure in pharmaceutical and food industries for the extraction of antioxidants and curcumin from turmeric. Some constituents of the Mediterranean diet, such as extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) contain substances such as hydroxytyrosol (HT) and its metabolite homovanillic alc. (HA). HT has aroused much interest due to its antioxidant activity as a radical scavenger, whereas only a few studies have been made on the HA mol. Both chem. synthesis and extraction techniques have been developed to obtain these mols., with each method having its advantages and drawbacks. In this study, we report the use of tyrosol from olive mill wastewaters as a starting mol. to synthesize HT and HA, using a sustainable procedure characterized by high efficiency and low cost. The effects of HT and HA were evaluated on two cell lines, THP-1 human leukemic monocytes and L-6 myoblasts from rat skeletal muscle, after treating the cells with a radical generator. Both HT and HA efficiently inhibited ROS production In particular, HT inhibited the proliferation of the THP-1 leukemic monocytes, while HA protected L-6 myoblasts from cytotoxicity. Calixarenes are cyclic oligomers obtained by condensation of suitable p-functionalized phenols with formaldehyde, usually allowing for the synthesis of the well known small calixarenes (including up to eight phenolic subunits). We report here the discovery of much larger members of this family, exhibiting sizes up to 90 phenolic subunits: the giant calixarenes. These macrocycles are obtained according to simple, easily scalable processes, in yields up to 65%. We show that the formation of these giant macrocycles is favored by an oxygen-containing-group at the para-position of the starting phenol, high concentrations of heavy alk. bases (rubidium or cesium hydroxides) and long reaction times. A mechanism is proposed to rationalize these observations. These giant macrocycles can also be obtained in the quasi-solid state, opening interesting perspectives in the field of calixarenes chem. Disclosed is a new, catalytic, and general methodol. for the chem. synthesis of biaryl, heterobiaryl, and polyaryl mols. by the cross-coupling of o-methoxybenzamides with aryl boroneopentylates. The reaction is based on the activation of the unreactive C-OMe bond by the proximate amide directing group using catalytic RuH2(CO)(PPh3)3 conditions. A one-step, base-free coupling process is thereby established that has the potential to supersede the useful two-step directed ortho metalation/ cross-coupling reaction involving cryogenic temperature and strong base conditions. High regioselectivity, orthogonality with the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction, operational simplicity, min. waste, and convenient scale-up make these reactions suitable for industrial applications. Thus, e.g., treatment of N,N-diethyl-2-methoxybenzamide with 2-phenyl-5,5-dimethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborinane in presence of RuH2(CO)(PPh3)3 afforded N,N-diethyl-2-biphenylcarboxamide (96%). Ethanol treatment suppresses the yellowing of fresh-cut yam by repressing the phenylpropanoid pathway and bisdemethoxycurcumin biosynthesis was written by Guo, Shuang;Zhao, Xiaoyan;Ma, Yue;Zhang, Yan;Wang, Dan. And the article was included in Postharvest Biology and Technology in 2021.Application of 33171-05-0 The following contents are mentioned in the article:

An ethanol treatment (10% volume/volume) inhibited the yellowing of fresh-cut yam during storage. The ethanol treatment also prevented bisdemethoxycurcumin formation, and reduced the contents of metabolites in fresh-cut yam during storage at 25°C. Ethanol treatment also inhibited the activities of key enzymes in the phenylpropanoid pathway, including phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), cinnamic acid-4-hydroxylase (C4H), and 4-coumarate-CoA ligase (4CL), and decreased the transcription level expressions of PAL, C4H, and 4CL compared to the control. The expressions of diketide-CoA synthase, curcumin synthase 3, and curcumin synthase were also reduced by ethanol treatment compared to the control, in agreement with the absence of bisdemethoxycurcumin in fresh-cut yam treated with ethanol. These findings suggest that ethanol can be used to attenuate the yellowing of fresh-cut yam stored at 25°C, which may be related to ethanol inhibition of the phenylpropanoid pathway and bisdemethoxycurcumin biosynthesis. SARS-CoV-2, a rapidly spreading new strain of human coronavirus, has affected almost all the countries around the world. The lack of specific drugs against SARS-CoV-2 is a significant hurdle towards the successful treatment of COVID-19. Thus, there is an urgent need to boost up research for the development of effective therapeutics against COVID-19. In the current study, we investigated the efficacy of 81 medicinal plant-based bioactive compounds against SARS-CoV-2 Mpro by using various in silico techniques. The interaction affinities of polyphenolic compounds towards SARS-CoV-2 Mpro was assessed via intramol. (by Quantum Mechanic), intermol. (by Mol. Docking), and spatial (by Mol. Dynamic) simulations. Our obtained result demonstrate that Hesperidin, rutin, diosmin, and apiin are most effective compounds agents against SARS-CoV-2 Mpro as compared to Nelfinavir (pos. control).
