The isoquinolinols I (X = Cl, Br, or iodine; R = H, Cl, Br, Me, or OMe; R1 = H, Me, or OMe) were prepared by cyclization of 3,4,6-RR1(NC)C6H2CH2COCl in the presence of anhydrous HX.
