To a stirred solution of 2-bromo-5-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid (5 g, 18.59 mmol) in 50 mL DMF at 0 C was added HATU (10.60 g, 27.9 mmol) and triethylamine (3.89 ml, 27.9 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred for 15 min. and then 2, 2-diethoxyethanamine (4.05 ml, 27.9 mmol) was added to it and the reaction mixture was slowly warmed to room temperature and stirred for 12 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with ice cold water, and the precipitate obtained was filtered and the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate, dried over sodium sulphate and concentrated to get the product as white solid. (Yield = 6 g, 85%). NMR (400 MHz, Chloroform-if) delta 7.82 (d, J = 2.8 Hz, 1H), 7.76 (d, J = 8.3 Hz, 1H), 7.55 (d, J = 8.3 Hz, 1H), 6.33 (s, 1H), 4.69 (dd, J = 6.0, 3.6 Hz, 1H), 3.83 – 3.72 (m, 2H), 3.68 – 3.57 (m, 4H), 1.30 – 1.18 (m, 6H).
