To a dimethylformamide (“DMF”) (50 mL) solution of the product of Part B (6.40 g, 15.2 mmol) was added K2CO3 (6.6 g, 47.8 mmol), 18-crown-6 (1.2 g, 4.5 mmol), and bis(2-bromoethyl)ether (2.8 mL, 22. mmol). The organic layer was separated, and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (3*150 mL) and CH2Cl2 (100 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4 and evaporated to form a tan solid. The solid was triturated with diethyl ether, and the precipitate was isolated by filtration and washed with diethyl ether (2*25 mL) to afford 4.79 g (64% yield) of the desired acid in the form of a white solid.
