Into a 25-mL round-bottom flask purged and maintained with an inert atmosphere of nitrogen, methyl (2S)-5-amino-6-bromo-2-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline-1-carboxylate (300 mg, 1.00mmol, Intermediate 1) was dissolved in toluene (5 mL). The residue was subjected to purification by FCC eluting with ethyl acetate/petroleum ether (2:1). This afforded the title compound (240 mg, 62%) as a yellow oil. MS: (ES, m/z): 366 [M+H]+.
