The residue was treated with toluene and the resulting solution concentrated in vacuo in order to remove residual ethyl acrylate, affording the ester (25.0 g, 100%) as a colorless oil: 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) delta 7.22 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 6.89-6.86 (m, 2H), 6.78 (dd, J=8.2, 2.5 Hz, 1H), 4.13 (q, J=7.1 Hz, 2H), 3.80 (s, 3H), 3.48 (s, 2H), 2.74 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 2.51 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 2.21 (s, 3H), 1.25 (t, J=7.1 Hz, 3H).
