The Et2O solutions of several cinnamic acids were spotted on silica gel plates, and the developed plates were sprayed with a 2% FeCl3 solution acidified with 2N HCl for colorimetric detection. The Rf values of the acids with eluents consisting of different mixtures of toluene-HOAc-EtOH are given.
