Stirring was maintain at r. t. for 24 h at which time the mixture was poured onto crushed ice followed by the addition of 30 ml of conc. HC1. The mixture was diluted with 300 ml of CH2Cl2 and carefully washed (avoid emulsion) with 2 N NaOH. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo a pale yellow oil. Flash chromatography (10% EtOAc/Heptanes) yields 6-isopropyl- 2,3-dihydro-4H-chromen-4-one (7.5 g, 24%).
