The reaction mixture was stirred for another 2 hours and diluted with EtOAc (30 mL) and water (30 mL). The organic layer was separated and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (30 mL x2). The combined organic layers were washed with brine (30 mL), dried over anhydrous Na2S04, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by columnchromatography (eluting with 0-50% ethyl acetate in petroleum) to give N-(2- (benzyloxy)ethyl)-5-cyclopropyl-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-(methylsulfonamido)benzofuran-3- carboxamide (1.4 g, crude, 104% yield).
